| Here's a question for guys who catch ALOT of fish on bucktails at night or in dark/dirty water. Has your success been on fluorocarbon leaders or sevenstrand / wire? I have caught many fish after dark and in dirty water on fluorocarbon but I am wondering if the sevenstrand or wire leaders might give off more vibration? I'm thinking of switching. Any opinions? |

I use fluorocarbon for everything except my jerkbaits and gliders. Works great.

| Why switch if I've had success on fluorocarbon? What if sevenstrand or wire is better? I'll never find out if I don't ask and or experiment on my own. I know some of the people here have caught a TON of fish on bucktails after dark and I want to hear what they have to say. Confidence in muskie fishing is invaluable. I gain confidence from my own experiences just as much as I do from other's. Which is why I asked. Thanks!

Location: Pelican Rapids, MN | I concur - If it ain't broke don't fix it. I as well use flouro for everything except Topwater and gliders. I don't think wire would improve your numbers at night or in stained water. I have never experienced a different vibration or action from wire especially when throwing bucktails.
The only time I think it would improve your situation is if it was a confidence thing.

| try that 2 piece leader that gregg has talked about then you can try both at the same time = )
and it is a pretty sweet deal especially at night for figure 8's, ive used it before

Location: Minnesota: where it's tough to be a sportsfan! | I always try to switch the rods over to stranded wire for night fishing. I just have more confidence in knowing it's hard to get guys to check leaders enough in daylight after a fish, I know they'll say something if the wire curls up on them. I also feel good that the wire will not give way. I use smaller strainght SS wire on topwaters, jointed SS leaders on glides and generally will use a straight SS wire on jerkbaits. The rest I switch over to the stranded wire like 7 strand. For trolling I go to a heavier stranded wire, some would call cable! But I know if they switch baits and want to put that very expensive giant deep digger on the leader won't be an issue. During the daylight I use allot of Floro & floro/ straight wire combos. I try to get my guys not to figure 8 at night but rather do a large circle instead. I feel the hook up ratio is better with the circle after dark. Hope some of this helps, Jake |

Location: On the X that marks the mucky spot | Check into 49 strand wire. The salt water guys use it and I've switched to it in many applications. It doesn't kink like 7 strand and it's much thinner then fluorocarbon. You also have a little peace of mind that it's not going to slice.
I've never had a problem with fluoro, but in applications like blades and rubber where fish have been known to take them deep it just makes me feel better to have metal connecting the bait to my line. |
