One day, any place

Guys and Gals,
I'm in a pretty cool predicament. I'm getting married this October and as part of our honeymoon I get to go to any lake I want and fish with a guide. So my question is if you were in my shoes, and could hire a guide for a day the 2nd week of October on any body of water, what lake would you fish and who would you hire? Lets take Canada out of the equation because thats too much driving/hassle for one day. Thanks in advance for the input! Here is my short list right now.

Lee Tauchen on Green Bay
Dennis Radloff on Green Bay
David Swenson on Lake Vermilion
Steve Jonesi

Scott Kieper - whatever lake he choses. Great guide and will bust his butt to put you on fish (and big fish @ that).

Congrats on the marriage.

2nd week of October? That will put you square in the middle of turnover in a lot of areas. I'd pick someone in an area with a variety of lakes, so if one is in mid-turnover you can find one nearby that's done or one that hasn't started yet...

Luke was great on V last year put us on fish and got us on a pattern. Jason Hammernick is on the pulse for big fish for sure. On Green Bay I'd go with Brett Alexander (very hot last year), Brett Jolly or Dennis Radloff.

Esoxaddict has a very viable point here. If it has to be the second week of October, turnover will likely be an issue some places. Mille Lacs does not turnover however, the lake can go through somewhat of a transition at this time. Especially if the water temps crash more than 10 degrees in a short time. If you were able to move back your fishing date to the third or fourth week of October, there's probably no better chance around at catching a forty pound plus fish casting than ML.

If it had to be that week, I would personally recommend Green Bay. That has been a consistent time on the Bay the last number of years.

I would have PM'ed you all this info but, your name was not registered to recieve messages.

Wherever you go and whoever you go with, it will be a learning experience.

Congrats!

I would highly recommend Both Lee Tauchen on Green Bay, and Scott Kieper for Hayward area. Both would be excellent choices. I have personally fished with both. Both dudes will work their asses off, and both are really fun in a boat. Time of year would really have to lean towards Green Bay. Guest, I have fished with Lee on Green Bay. Lee isnt much for the crowd, he does his own thing out there for the most part, in places most are not doing them. If you want to learn how to fish GB in ways other than driving around in circles. Lee would be my 1st choice to guide on Green Bay.

Depends on what you want to do and what your goal is. Do you want to try to catch A big fish or are you looking to catch a pile of them in a hurry? Do you want to catch 'em casting or trolling or no preference at all? If you want to get the chance at a big fatty, do your research and find a reputable guide on the St. Lawrence or Georgian Bay for a chance at a monster, but your chances of being disappointed by no fish at all will be greater. If numbers is your thing and probably an increase in odds of having a good day catching fish, go to Lake St. Clair. You will most likely catch fish and you also have your best chance at a 50+ incher IMO. It may not be a heavy pig, but your odds will be greater than pretty much anywhere else in the world. And you'll have fun catching fish all day as well. Good Luck in your search and congrats in your new journey.

I just had the 6th & 7th of October (New moon phase) open up if interested in coming to the Detroit Lakes area. I also have a day or two open in that second week.

I would think Green Bay would be a great pick for that time of year, but I would think that Dennis would be booked by now for that time window.
CALL SOON or you might be fishing by yourself or with your new bride!

Second week of October could be tough most places. I think Brad Hoppe does well on his lakes in October. Or, if you're into sucker fishing, Gregg Thomas does well fishing them in October. I'd give those two a shout, and as far as Green Bay goes, I'd contact Lee or Dennis.
