| Overall I love my calcutta's but I have a problem with a newer one. The drag seems to have only two options, on or off. It will crank down all the way, but there is no in between. I bought the reel last fall and didn't notice too much since I fish with the drag down all the way for casting. This weekend I was trolling and wanted the drag light enough for the clicker to go off. It was either so strong that line couldn't come off or so loose the crankbait could take line.
Any advice?
I'm hoping it's something that is an easy fix and I don't have to send it in.
Thanks

Location: MN | When you put it away for the winter did you losen the drag? If not you may have compresed the washers so there's olny those two settings. |

Your drag washers may have grease of something else on them that makes them slip unless the drag is cranked down.

| Actually it is the reverse of that, I have full drag until it is backed all the way off. The idea that the discs are comressed makes the most sense. |

| you need to apply grease to your washers believe it or not!
this allows for smooth strip instead of binding. just enough to put a slight haze on the drag washers. im assuming this is on a TE?
trust me, they even say to do that in their maintenance instructions.
has worked for me.

Location: Smith Creek | Dogboy is right, if they were compressed as soon as you loosen it from locked tight it would pull out easily. If it needs grease it would stay tight until it's loosened all the way. |

| Something you might want to check is the drag washers that have been discussed in earlier posts. They have a slight cup to them, and the cups should be counter to each other like this ( ). Sometimes after cleaning they can be replaced incorrectly and function as you have been describing.

| I plan on cleaning reels this weekend. Will defintiely try greasing the drag lightly. I will post whether that fixes it or not.
Thanks |

Location: MN | Did my Calcutta at the expo. Tech recommended a very light film of grease on the fiber washers only down on the drive gear set inside the reel, no grease on the metal drag washers out on the drive gear handle on the outside of the reel. I think with a thorough cleaning, and replacing the metal drag washers if they've lost their cup, would solve the issue. |

The only grease that you should use on the drag fiber washers are CAL'S DRAG GREASE or SHIMANO DRAG GREASE, U can also use this grease for the gears and worm drive gear. I use CAL'S for the drag washers and HOT SAUCE grease for the gears and worm gear.
