Question: Is the side finding / down imaging technology as good as I'm hearing or is it just the regular buzz about something new? Would it actually be that great for musky fishing (casting or trolling)? Does it really justify dropping the $2,000 - $3,000 on one unit? I would like to hear real stories from musky guys who have used it. Lowrance or Humminbird any difference / preference? I would like to hear from someone who is unbiased (like not on a Lowrance pro staff) and actually uses them for casting for musky and trolling for musky. Naturally anyone in the selling these things business is going to tell you how great it is.

Question: Does placing heat shrink on trailing tail hooks on musky lures increase hook-up odds?
I've read a couple interesting mini articles on placing heat shrink on the trailing tail hooks of Musky lures such as spoons and bucktails. Per this articles the heat shrink allows these hooks to run in-line with the body of the lure instead of hanging down almost at a 90 degree angle. So just wondering if any of the experts have used this technique and have proven it's success before I attempt it.
Sincerely,
Kim

I've heard a lot of theories about Moon Phase, Moon Rise/Set, Barometric Pressure Up/Down/Stable, Weather, etc when it comes to turning fish on. Are there general patterns that can be drawn, or is it just better to be lucky than good after all?

Location: Medford, WI | I'm looking to hire a guide in order to learn something new. What I want to learn may be related to a type of structure or structureless technique (i.e. deep rocks, deep weeds, open water, clear water, etc.) or it could be learning how to choose and use the most effective baits in different situations.
What types of questions do I need to consider before deciding on hiring "Joe Guide" as my guide?

What types of structures/cover do you typically look for muskies in the spring? In the fall, I do not have a problem finding fish, especially along the weed edges, but spring is a hard time for me. How early (IL lakes) do fish migrate to the weeds, and at what times of year should they be targeted along deeper structures (points, breaks, etc.)? |

When working points/sandbars/rock structures what is the proper way to bump the lure off the structure to entice a bite when you know there are Tiger Musky suspending around these areas?
Thanks!! |

With side shooting sonar becoming more popular and heavily marketed, why wouldn't forward shooting sonar while under power make even more sense to develop? |

We've all heard about how important it is to have sharp hooks, but what is the proper procedure to sharpen a hook? |

Suspended fishing is becoming more popular, but I think a lot of guys - including myself have low confidence in fishing out in the middle of the lake casting to nothing.
Somebody that considers themself a good suspended/open water fisherman: How often are you truly out in the abyss casting in the basin with no structure or breakline nearby? When you are in the open basin, what things do you look for or do to try to eliminate unproductive water?
What conditions warrant fishing fish suspended over deep strcture or near structure? What conditions warrant fishing out in the basin? Are there prime water temperatures or times of the year to fish suspended muskies? |

While fishing a river system, how do muskies set up in current and what are typical features to look for in river systems. |

When targeting suspended muskies... How important is it to find the deep weed edges? Is open water casting in the basin with virtually no structure a waste of time?
Ask Mark Lijewski - that guy is my hero.
