It appears the maximum file size we can upload as a post attachment is 20k. Its hard to make a picture under 20k and not be the size of a thumbnail. I am guessing you put a 20k file size restriction on the site to minimize your storage requirements? Is it possible without maxing out your capacity to go to 40k attachments? What can we do to squeze down the file size but not the picture size?

I use a digital camera; actually-- two. One is a Panasonic Mini DV with a Media card for stills, and the other is a Samsung. The camera allows for the compression of the photo and the resolution to be set for small file sizes. The lowest resolution the camera allows will be outstanding for the 'net.

If you are using a scanner, set the resolution there for the web if it has software that allows it. Otherwise, use a program like Microsoft Picture It! which allows one to scan in a photo, change it to a jpg format for the web, and save it to a floppy or attach it to a post on MuskieFIRST directly from a Picture It! directory.

Hope this helps! I am still learning this, so forgive the rough description.[:0]

You can attach pictures larger than 20k without a problem.

Is there some trick to attaching pictures? It seems nearly random to me. I'm a pretty savvy directions follower, and when I post pictures, here's what I do.

First thing, before I so much as type a word, I click on attach file. For example, we will use fish.jpg. I select it in the "browse" window, then click on upload. It says fish.jpg has been successfully uploaded or something to that effect. Then I type my post, submit it, but the pic is not there. Now, if I try it again with the same file, it will automatically rename the upload fish.2.jpg, and it won't show. But, if I change the name to mewithfish.jpg, then upload it, it will post ok. Then the next few pictures will post properly with no problems, but then it will start again. Just a heads up. Not sure if the Ideal BB people have a fix for it or not, but it is odd and moderately frustrating.

I'm with Cmunger on this one. There doesn't appear to be consistentcy in how you can successfully upload a pic. Everytime I've tried I had to keep re-sizing the pick smaller until I got it under 20k.
