Which hooks are the best to remove on a 6" Jake? I want to get just a little more buoyancy out of the lure. I keep telling myself to get rid of the front so it doesn't hang up on the lip (have this happen often), but I know the normal course of action is to get rid of the middle since the front and back are still pretty close together.

If you want more bouyanct put 1/2 short shank light wire mustads on them. More gap than what is on there and less weight.

How big are your hooks?
The 6" Jakes I've bought--and I like them--all came with 2/0 treble hooks. I was not satisfied with the action of the lure with these size hooks. I first downsized to 1/0. Still the action was not satisfactory. I then downsized to 1. Much better action. Would I lose fish to straightened hooks? I don't know.

I remove the middle on my 6" jakes. fwiw

I replace the front hook, with a double, like you find on a Loke 6" bait. It fills the gap between the two hangers nicely.
