Alot of discussion about a below the dam fish barrier. A little more than a third of the funds are pledged so far and it is going to take written commitments from several fishing clubs to keep it debris free. By all means support the local M.I. clubs and help them get this project done. The Shabbona lake Club is very involved as well. It is estimated a minimum of 1 fish per acre(based on previous fish recovery totals) may be lost on a yearly basis. Any support is greatly apreciated.

Fished it this last sat. No fish in the boat but seen 2 sunning themselves in the northern bay very shallow. Didn't see any one catch a fish, musky or pan. Nice lake, lots of pressure.

Yes! If they would at least allow no wake for big motors it might make it worthwhile to fish. Between the massive amount of pressure and the 10hp limit it really is a pain to fish. I'm sure my 50hp 4 stroke on idle pollutes less and makes a heck of a lot less noise than my 3.5 2 stroke screaming wide open trying to push my boat at 4 mph! Anyway between pressure, HP limit, and lack of seeing fish I'm in no hurry to go back even though I drive within 1/2 hour of it with the boat in tow most Sundays.

Fished Shabbona today 7-3.
Lost a mid 30's fish on a Spanky spinnerbait.
Had 1 follow on a hellhound. about 40"
Caught a 7# 23" LMB on a bulldawg (which was awesome)
maybe 25 boats on lake

I agree with you 100%, no wake would be great except that other little piece of the puzzle, fishing pressure. Without a HP limit you would spend more time there, I would spend more time there, as well as 5000 others. I could see it now, trailers parked on the side of the road all the way out to hwy 30 and rush hour gridlock on the entire lake would probably make a few of us wish for 10 HP limits again. It is a slippery slope and I'm not sure any one idea is the best one overall.

I think you could see more boats there but it would eventually even out. no wake is the right thing to do. Our money goes to stock the lake through the purchase of our license and there is no good reason to keep people from fishing the lake. State parks are built for tourism, not to keep people from using it. I was told by a DNR head that it will never change. he told me I could rent a boat. I told him anyone with a bigger motor is spending their tourism dollars somewher else.

I think people would fish during the week alot more if it was no wake.

If we can get that downstream barrier done this year and save the fish we think can be saved, shabbona could be something very special. SHabbona lake Club, Quad County and Fox River Valley muskies inc chapters have donated funds to this project, if you fish the lake and want to see it better, support these clubs!
