i have the same problem on my mercury 175efi. at an idle i have little to no water coming out of pee hole. pressure guage on dash says 0 pressure. raise idle slightly and water strats to pick up in spray. Full throttle have strong water shooting out and i think 25 psi on gauge. never owned a mercury before but my johnson had strong water line all the time.

The EFI's at idle spray versus a steady stream. Once you've put the throttle down a little, the spray should turn to more of a stream. If there's no water coming out at all at idle speed, you need to replace the water pump.

Steady stream from my Johnson after 53 yrs. ! Thank God !

Your impeller or housing may be on the way out..... Have you been in sand or muck lately? Or check your popit valve for any debris..
Johnsons work better with lots of lube !

Not positive on yours but some of the EFI's and carb'd merc have the pee hole hooked to Thermostat side which means the engine must be warm and the thermostats open before you get a steady stream. Might wanna check on that before you waste your money on a water pump.

I had the marina look at mine over the winter and they said it was clogged with sand, before it was barely peeing and now coming out strong.

Merc on our muskie boat plugs up all the time, I think it limes up with our hard water or something. My rude on my walleye boats only plugged once in 5 years though, merc does it about monthly.
