I'm thinking about purchashing a hand held radio. Any suggestions on the best model/brand I should get? Thanks for your help!

I've dealt with just about every major brand out there and have had no problems with any of them believe it or not. Uniden, Lowrance, Raymarine, Midland, Cobra, icom, Hummingbird are all good. Uniden is probably the most well known of them all, followed by Raymarine and Cobra.

I have the Humminbird handheld and so does my dad. Neither of us have had and problems and for a reasonable price you get a lot with it. Rechargable, run disposable batteries if you want, plug into 12volt. Good little units, but I don't think you can go wrong with any of them, it just comes down to best bang for your buck.

I have a Midland and have for years that I carry with me on the water fishing as well as during duck season. It's a solid unit, completely waterproof, floats and came in around 120$.

I've had 3 in the last 6 yrs., but I started out cheap and now have a good one from Lowrance that was about $110.
It gets out farther than the cheaper ones too.
