I was given an older Matrix 55 with an external GPS unit. The GPS puck has one wire coming off the puck that splits into two.

One plugs into the head of the unit. The second one is an insulated cable with 3 wires (white, red and black). I checked the online manual and did not see how to make the connect with these wires. I assume that the puck needs to be powered but i do not want the take a chance of a misconnection. I would have assumed black to ground and red to positive but the third wire I am not sure about.

When I called the support line they did not offer the option of the older units.

Anyone have any experience with this type of unit?

Thanks,

CI

If it is like the rest of Hbirds pucks tape it off with black tape and leave it. The puck is powered through the mainline to your unit. That extra line coming off the back should be for a NMEA hook up. Hbirds are not like Lowrance where the puck is powered 100% of the time. When your unit is turned on is then the puck is powered when it's off it's off.
