Location: Syracuse, Indiana | Hope I have the correct forum for this one. I have a number of baits (mainly HR's, but a few others) with chips, cracks, hook pointers, etc. in the clear coat finish. Some are into the wood, but most are just the coating chipped off. Is there a good solution for patching these areas? I tried coating some baits with envirotex, but the etex flaked off after some use, and the "chipped" area was never quite right. Thanks. |

Location: Freedom, WI | You should have scuffed the original coating then the Etex would have stuck. Take 5 minute epoxy and fill in the big holes then sand and coat again with E tex. |

I have an HR with a chip to. They put a thick coat of epoxy on them but they sure crack on the front if you hit something hard. Wish they used something a little more rubbery. Let me know how your repair works as I would like to try it on my HR. |

What if the crack goes all the way to the wood? How would you recommend this sort of repair? |

Location: Des Moines IA | Use the 5 minute epoxy to fill holes and chips, let it dry completely, scuff the whole top coat with light sandpaper, re-coat the whole lure with etex, spin the bait on a drying rack for at least a couple of hours while the etex dries for a even coat. |

| Just a little note, if the etex isn't mixed with equal parts, it doesn't cure and stays soft, this also causes the etex to peal. when sanding really watch the corners.

Location: Freedom, WI | Good point Muskyfix, it does not need to be sanded just scuffed lightly. Mike got into the detail better then I did but that is what you do. Patched a lot of lures that way, also make sure it has completely dried out because if the wood is still wet it can rot from the inside out (depending on the wood type). |

Location: Oconto Falls, WI | I would suggest using the 2-ton epoxy over the 5 minute stuff. The 2-ton doesn't yellow like the 5 minute will over time. At least my 2 ton fixes haven't yellowed yet. |

Location: Syracuse, Indiana | Baits arrived back from Don today, and they look AWESOME! Thanks to Don for making my old baits better than new. If I ever become technologically able (I am at present inept), I'll post pictures. Don's work is HIGHLY recommended. |
