Location: Northwest Wi. | Im getting ready to do some spring work on my Susuki '08 DF140 4-str. I would like to install a water pump repair kit this year as I ran into a lot of low water(sand) last year. Is this something a fairly good home mechanic can do?? I do oil, plugs, bearings on my own and have tools. The dealership is a long way from the house.

| I have done it on my suzi 70 hp 4 stroke. It was easy and I am not even remotely handy. You should be able to go online and buy the kit, (impeller and gaskets/seals). I have a maintenance book (seloc) which walked me thru it and told me what sealers, lubes to use...
Takes 2 hours for a non-handy rookie and a buddy while taking beer breaks. Likely takes a seasoned veteran 30 minutes tops:)

Location: Northwest Wi. | msky3...The Ranger Cover would raise a few eyebrows on the Tuffy,,Maybe get me kicked out of the crew (ha,ha)- Mille Lacs humor..But thanks just the same I already ordered the filters..Landry....I think I will take on the water pump kit next week or so. If you see a guy with steam pouring out the motor on the opener ,,,it didn't work... |

Not to sound like a wimp or naysayer....but if the motor is an '08, you might want to consider a few "long way" trips to drop the motor off and then pick it up from an authorized Suzi repair shop (not necessarily the dealer, and not even always a boat engine repair shope). My assumption would be that since the motor is 2 years old, it's under warranty. Get it done once, correctly. You do it wrong this time, they might not cover the fix it to fix your mistakes.....
Just thinking here. |

| It is pretty hard to do the suzi water pump impeller wrong. Warranty or not, I work hard for my $$ and I would rather not give it away for no reason. If I did it, anyone can. The lower unit came off easily and there are hardly any parts involved. It can be fixed for 50 bucks by yourself and a buddy in an hour or two - with no stress.
