Location: Hayward, WI | I'm looking for a good pair of shoes to wear for summer fishing. I would really like something waterproof, or at least very water resistant so that rain water running down my rain bibs doesn't soak my feet. I want something that is comfortable and has fairly good support, but is still enough of a shoe that I can wear them with shorts and not look like a total dork. 
I think I'm looking for something kind of between a hiking boot and a walking/running shoe.
I'd like to not spend much more than $100. I've heard good things about Merrells. Any other suggestions?

Location: Contrarian Island | I have a pair of Merrells..they are very nice, and waterproof...Moab Goretex XCR is the model...around 95 bucks. |

Location: Bemidji, Lake Vermilion | Merrells are nice. Also check out Auckland WP from Hi-Tec, great shoes, and their lite hiking boots that are waterproof are awesome also. |

Location: Kodiak, AK | What size do you wear? Sierra Trading has Keen Shellrocks right now for $75 in limited sizes. Great shoes.
Beyond that, I'm a LaSportiva and Asolo guy. Can't go wrong with either. But Merrill, North Face and other make good shoes as well. |

Location: Davenport, IA | I have the Merrell Moab GTX and found them uncomfortable. I bought some gore-tex New Balance shoes though and they are very comfortable. I can wear them standing on concrete for 10 hours a day at work and have no pain in my feet. |

Location: Hayward, WI | Thanks for the replies everyone. Gander Mountain has the Merrells, and I'm pretty sure they also have the New Balance shoes. I think they also had some Keens that were waterproof. I was leaning towards the Merrells or New Balance. I've never been comfortable ordering shoes online without being able to try them on first, so being able to head to Gander and try them on first will be a big plus.
I've heard a couple people say Gore-Tex loses it waterproofing qualities after a while. Have any of you noticed that? Do you have to keep treating them with something to keep them waterproof?

Location: Wishin I Was Fishin' | My favorite is a Rocky Mountain Chucka boot with Gore Tex and no insulation.
I've tried other water proof light boots but these are my favorite.
I wouldn't go with anything but gore tex. Others may say water proof but gore tex lasts the longest. |

| I had a pair of NorthFace Gortex hiking shoes a few years ago. The first year I had them they were amazing. The peace of mind and feeling of not having wet feet when it's raining can not be understated. I wore them through the winter, also pretty awesome having dry feet while walking through slush around campus. However, they weren't waterproof anymore by the time summer rolled around. I wouldn't expect any other brand name waterproof sneaker to be any different, shoes stretch and wear pretty quick. I would recommend buying a waterproof sneaker and only wearing them when rain is in the forecast. They would probably last you a few seasons easy that way.
I replaced mine with a pair of Keen sandals. They're extremely comfortable, protect your toe, and look good with shorts. I still don't understand why they claim they are "waterproof" though.... |
