| Which do you prefer and why. A wide gunnel or narrow. Looking at a Navigator is why I ask. Thanks |

Location: On my favorite lake! | I prefer the wide gunnels of the dominator because it ses to have more room inside and easier to mount things like rod holders and downriggers. I like the side wall storage better as well. |

I prefer the narrow gunnel width because I can get my rod totally vertical without having to make too much movement of my upper body. As far as rod holders go, depending on how much trolling you do, you can mount scotty holders on the rear corners pretty easily, and if you so choose, you could mount rails and attach that way, or go with down easters which wouldn't allow you to put a rod tip in the water, but they should be able to be mounted on a gunnel.
If you get a dual console model, you can mount scotty's or any similar type on the sides with ease since the sides are covered by a piece of sheet aluminum.
The navigator is a really nice boat...I've had the 165 since they came out in 2005, and I love it!!

Location: Hayward, WI | I like narrower gunnels. I have the old style (early 2000) Navigator, and like that it has narrow gunnels. I also like the more finished, but still narrow gunnels on the new Navigators too.
I would say that you can find a way to mount stuff to the narrow gunnell boats, and it offers that much more space in the boat, along with letting you be a little closer to the water for figure 8s like Steve said. Unless you like the look of the really wide gunnels, I don't see disadvantages to the narrow style.
The Navigators are great boats too!

Location: Lake of The Woods | I never understood those X-tra wide gunnels that come on some of the lunds? They make a 96 inch beam to have 24 inches less taken up by there gunnels. Id rather have the space. |

Location: Madison, WI | For my Navigator I mounted the Ranger rails on them. They work great and look very clean. I had a boat with wider gunnels and like what was said before, make sure you mount your rod holders as close to the edge as possible so that your rod tips will get down into the water when trolling.
The wider gunnels also take that much more room out of the boat's interior. More side storage though. |

| perhaps some casters might prefer the wide gunnels to stand on for increased sight fishing capability and seeing follows sooner. with long rods should still be able to do deep figure 8 and with seeing follows sooner perhaps trigger fish away from boat at higher rate. anyone had experience with this? |
