| OK - I have been dead set against EVER putting a Merc on any boat I own.
However, my only option on a certain boat is a 150 Verado. The only reason this is even a consideration is because it's a 4 stroke.
What has everyone's experiences with the Verado been? I have had a 80 Yamaha for 9 years and the only thing I have ever had to do to it was clean the carbs.
Thanks - Ball Cap |

| I feel the same way about Merc, but it may be my only choice with a boat i am looking at. From talking to many dealers who sell merc, the 4 strokes have been good. I know they aren't going to say the contrary, but i did run into a trustworthy dealer at a show who said, they have greatly improved and out of the 100 they sold, none have come back. this is hearsay, but this guys sold both yamaha, Etec and merc so he could have been honest. I think merc got a bad rep in 2000-1003 with some of the 2 strokes and others like myself have just been sour to Merc compared to others on the market. |

| could be several reasons. Used boat, dealer is Merc only, boat is already rigged or buying a Lund or C'Liner and anything else would be cost prohibitive.
Mercury produces great motors. Yep, they had some isues with the 200-2001 Opti big blocks, but those motors have been rock solid since 2002. The Verado is a great motor. The 150 is a 4 cyl, and still supercharged, so your performance will exceed that of all other 4-strokes. Hole shot, mid range, and top end. You'll love the motor.

| I Run a 07' Verado 150 on my 1850 Fishhawk. Mine is not the Gen II which is supposed to have less problems that the older ones had, but mine has been flawless so far. "Knock on wood". Almost 400 hrs. on her now. I love it! |
