I'm looking at at used ranger 620 dvs with a yamaha 225 four stroke. The boat is about 5 years old. The owner states there is no hour meter. Can the engine be hooked up at a dealership to tell me the hours? Also, should I get the boat surveyed?

Thanks

Yes, most dealers can get you an hour report from the motor as well as the RPM bands it was run in. You're probably going to be fine with the yami as they run forever anyway. As far as a boat survey it's never a bad thing, but I don't know if it'd be worth the money unless it's a repo or you have some suspicion about it. You should be able to check it out yourself. Check all the switches, look for cracks and possible repairs, etc.

Yes, F225's can be hooked up (at least mine does, and other's I know of as well), as can HPDI's. OX66's can not. Depending no the gauges, there may actually be an hourmeter. If it's got Yamaha gauges, certain multifunction digi tachs have an hourmeter function on them, some do not. When I repowered last spring, I specifically changed the tach for one that has an hourmeter. Hours and engine maintenance go hand in hand.

Getting a survey is never a bad idea. I'd get the engine compression, leak down, shaft run-out and transom looked if nothing else.
