Location: Waconia, MN | Just wondering who out there is still using shorter rods like 7 ft or less and what do you use them for? I have a 6' 6" avid but rarely find time to use it anymore. |

| jerkbaits 6'6", and use a 7'6" MH St Croix for smaller bucktails and spinners. Not every lure needs a 9' XXH rod. |

Location: Probably Minnesota that time... | I use 6' - 6'-3" rods for all walk the dog-topwater and gliders. I think the longer rods are better for hooking and holding fish, but I cannot get the same action working the longer rod off to the side. I may try the longer rods again this year, but do like the action of the lures using downward strokes with the shorter sticks.

| I use my old 6' St Croix rods for sucker fishing. They work great and you can really set a hook. |

| For our pool demo. I find the shorter rods keep people who want to try out baits from launching them into the rafters a little less. Nothing less than an 8fter other than that, I prefer the advantage at boatside. |

Location: Elk River, Minnesota | Hiya,
I am also one who likes the shorter rods for jerkbaits. I prefer a 6'-9" rod...something with a little give in the tip, but a solid backbone. Currently going to build one on a competitor blank from Thorne Bros.

Location: North East PA , 20 mins from Chautauqua | I still use a 6 footer for chop baits I like to work them hard and fast with long downward pulls . I have went to a long rods for everything else but I just have to have a short rod for my style of fishing chopbaits . I have tried it and I only end up slapping the water into a froth in front of me .

Location: Maplewood, MN | I throw all jerk baits, dive & rise and side to side, with my 6'10" Loomis. Some of the bigger/heavier gliders (Wabull) will be thrown on an 8 footer. Like others have said, I just have so much more control on a short stiff rod. With jerk baits, ypou need that control in and around weeds. I can and will use a longer rod, but in general, I stick w/the shorter rod. |

| 7'2" for jerkbaits, glide baits, and walk-the-dog topwaters. 6'6" when I'm wading in the river. Anything longer makes it impossible to do a figure eight. |

Location: Germantown, WI | I like a shorter rod 6'6" to 7'0 of which i have 2 of that i use for most of my smaller topwater baits and 6" jerk baits. i'm a bit shorter at 5'8", so for me rods longer than 8' are just kind of difficult to utilize. |
