Location: Stevens Point, WI | Mariner was originally introduced in Europe, then followed in the US in the late 70's. Mercury brought Mariner in the US as another option, basically like a Cadillac under the GM umbrella. As you might see, the Optimax was both run as a Mariner and Mercury during it's official release. As far as I know, the Mariners are the same as a Mercury, just presented as a different name.
Every Mariner I've ever dealt with or run has been great, wouldn't hesitate to own one. | |

| When mercury first got mariner, yamaha was building them. Thats how yamaha entered the market, was building mariner motors for mercury. Than yamaha made there own line of motors. That is what i was told.
I have a mariner 25, bought it used (1990 model), and it has not let me down. I love the motor, put three hard seasons on it, from wide openep runs for half hour cracks to trolling at idle for 4 hours. Mine has been great to me. | |

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Yamaha and Mercury had a long standing relationship. Some Mariners were built by Yamaha, some were not...at first, it was 60 HP and below, then it was 40 hp and below, then Yamaha built select 4 stroke powerheads for Merc and Mariner. | |
