Location: Northern Wisconsin | When do you guys use regular mags vs the shallow mags? I have never tried shallow mag dawgs and have heard they tend to spin on the retrieve. People say they are good over weeds where regulars cant reach but I have used regular mag's over the top of very shallow weeds and caught fish. Just kept my rod tip up and a quicker retrieve and they stay up over the weeds. What are the shallow mags good for |

Location: Sw Pennsylvania | I fish shallow water alot( 3 to 8 Feet) alot and like shallow dawgs more so then regular mags. If you bend the shallow models you can get them to run good. You can fish them slow or fast which is the biggest variable for me, the regulars will be dragging bottom if you like to fish them slow where the shallow dawgs will give you some hang time in between pulls...Just my 2 cents.. |

I did the same thing last year... never really saw the use for the shallow dawgs. |

Location: Gilberts IL/Rhinelander WI | I also fish them in shallow water. I like to work them slow, at times. The weighted version has to be worked too fast, to keep them off the bottom. You can always add a weight to the shallow dawgs. On the pause , a shallow dawg has some serious hang time. I use both. |

Yep. They're nice when you want to work slower over the shallow stuff and not sink like a rock. |

Location: Racine, Wi | They make a very cool sound on the surface too as a surface bait. I've gotten some fish over shallow, shallow weeds doing that. I suppose I don't do that enough come to think of it. |

Interesting.
I'll need to add a few shallow models to my arsenal. I didn't even think of using them as a surface / sub-surface bait. |

| Is there any way of modifying the Pro Dawgs (taking out the weight) to make them Shallows? Haas anyone tried it? Unfortunately there are no Pro Shallow Dawgs available. I personally really like the Shallow Mags for slowly working and twitching over weeds, which is a deadly method for big pike! |

Location: Contrarian Island | shallow mags are great over cabbage that is very high to the surface, also in the fall had good luck w/ them shallow, really anytime you want the bait to hang if fish are more neutral and not as deep in the water column...one of my heaviest Madison ski's came on a shallow mag in November....they are great baits...everyone should have a few! |
