| I haven't used any Double 10 or 13 bucktails and want to start using them more this season. What are the pros/cons of these different models? Or, if there are others you would recommend please do! Please consider price as a factor when comparing. |

In my opinion... When it comes to musky gear, you get what you pay for. That said, Musky Mayhem's Double Cowgirl is at the top of the game.
It is hard to verbally dismantle any other #10, they all have common and similar features, uses, and components. It is just a matter of personal preference.
Let the barrage begin! |

Location: Land of the Musky | Granted I make the Dominatrix and Booty Tails but IMO make your own. Nothing like catching a fish on a lure you made yourself! Fun to make them too. If you post the question on the Basement board I am happy to post a picture of a few double #10s taken a part so you can see the components you need to make them. www.mooreslures.com has everything you need.
As for branded bucktails: Nobody right now can claim they have the "original" double 10 or even the "original" double 10 with tinsel skirts. I think a guy named Brian ??? made the first double 10 with hair in the early 80s and soon after that some Christmas tree tinsel was added for a skirt according to what I have heard.
I think you will find a lot of great brands are out there to choose from and some cost over $20 and some a little over $10. Skirt skirts skirts from heavy mylar, rubber, and hair skirts to 024 thick blades that spin fast but may warp to heavy 040 blades that are rock solid but may not spin as fast as you want. Rubber tails, one hook, two hooks, etc. You look and you will find a lot of great options. Of course just buy one of my 42 flavors My new 2010 #10 and #13 models use new 032 thick blades with over sized heavy clevises and spin like a dream. Thanks to customer comments (good and bad) I have made some real nice improvements over the years.

Location: In a shack in the woods | There's not really a bad bucktail maker that I know of. I make my own but when I see stuff I like I buy it. I give the credit to the originater. The new fish dcg are sweet. I had to buy the walleye and whitefish. After I fished with Chad last summer I bought the bucktail we raised the most fish on that day. I just saw the dadsons and they are sick, but $28 ouch. If it catches my eye I'll buy it but make the standard colors and my own combos myself. Plus by learning to make your own you can easily fix any problems with your store bought ones. |

| Gerry's Girls all the way. I live close to him. He'll make anything you want. Every fish I've caught on a double 10's has been on Girls. He's much less costly. They produce. Why pay for a name ? |

Location: Des Moines IA | I mostly have mojo, XXs right now, just picked up some Dominatrixs' though. I have never caught a single fish on a bucktail, so why I keep buying them, I have not figured out yet? I'll put them through their paces and report back. |

they all do basically the same thing. As James said the blade thickness varies speed that the blades spin at. Weight also varies the speed you need to bulge or how slow you have to reel to keep from blowing out depending on your reel. When I make my own I use heavier weights so I can burn them faster. |

| I have Cowgirls,Spanky's,DC-10's,Gerry's,Dadson's,Discobells. They all catch fish period! I like to use the Spanky's to get deeper, the Cowirls/discobells,for fishing shallower. They all get deeper but the spanky's get the deepest with the most speed! I also feel the dc10's pull the hardest of all of them, must be the rubber skirting.....at least that's my opinion, get some of each and go to work, figure out what works best for your app and then buy more!

Location: In a shack in the woods | Oh yea, thin flashabou sucks. It likes to knot up in your hooks and other lures. Sometimes it even wraps around your bait so it won't flair. |

| Without trying to add to the can of worms so to speak......there is differences with double tens and how they are designed. There are three different double tens that I have confidence in. Two of them are mentioned in the above posts one has not been. The lateral line on a musky is a lot more sensative than most realize. Subtle differences can be huge. Thankfully most do not realize this and will buy for looks, popularity, or brand loyalty. I guess I would sooner catch fish than be cool. |

| as others have said they are all very well made baits mentioned in this thread. I don't think anyone can say a Cowgirl is any better built than a Gerrys girl or Spanky or whatever...they are well built.
I probably have over 120 Gerrys girls from 8's to 12s and they work well.
Glittertails are great too..I own quite a few of those and have caught a few over 50 on them..same with Cowgirls...
they all have a time and place...thin blades, thick blades, light versions, weighted versions etc etc etc the price they are getting for a new Cowgirl these days is a little nuts to me...Gerrys girls are far less expensive and catch just as many fish for me... |

Location: Hayward, WI | Everybody is talking about the good price of the Gerry's Girls. How much do his 10's go for? How about shipping? You can get Double Cowgirls at MTO for $21.99. That doesn't seem too bad to me. Getting them at Gander Mountain - that's a different story. Might have to check in to the Gerry's Girls also.

Gerry is great to work with and was very helpful when I decided to venture out and make some of my own lures this year. I will still be picking up 2-3 from him this year before the season starts though.

I think the name you were searching for for a very early double bladed bucktail is Brian Long. That lure is painted on the big Propane tank in Boulder Junction...BL Whoppertail I think...it was a long time ago. |
