Location: Northern Wisconsin | a St. Croix Premier 8' MH? It's rated 1-3 oz so its very underrated for mag dawgs. I discovered how well mag dawgs worked last season and threw them on this rod. Is it time to get a bigger rod for mag dawgs if I plan on thorwing them a lot? I don't want to get a new rod if I don't need to (no $) but don't want to break my St. Croix casting mag dawgs.

Location: Iowa Great Lakes | Would be best to get a now one. Mag dawgs are hard on a rod that light. My 2 favorite for mags are the Thorne Bros C series 8' and my 9' Tackle Industries XH |

| I would not be throwing Mags with that rod....its to soft, you are working harder than you have too....the rod is loading to much when ripping these, and really not enough backbone for a good hookset with rubber.
There are alot of options out there for around 100-130 that would be perfect for mag dawgs.
here are some options: Okuma,Black River,Musky Innovations Evolution series,Shimano Compre. Also keep checking the Buy Sell Trade thread, lots of people upgrade in the off season which is time for some really good deals to be had. |

Location: Grand Rapids MN | I did the same thing as you years ago with my Fenwick 8'MH with similar rating. I had an older shallow mag dawg that I decided to try out. I felt really nervious throwing that dawg on this rod as it loaded up so much. I just took it slow and tossed it nice and easy. I would definitly recommend a heavier rod based on my experience. There are enough lower priced rods out there that's its not worth breaking your St. Croix over. Plus a heavier rod will allow you to have better hook sets. Anything rated up to 7-10oz range will do fine but still allow you to use them for other applications. |

| And what about the lamiglas LGM 80 H. That one is rated 1-8 oz. Anyone experiance on this rod?? I am thinking of buying one just for spinnerbaits and the 12'dagws. |

| Okuma 8'6" XH or XXH. Works very well and folds down to 7' with the telescopic feature. This rod is built for that application IMO. only costs about $115 and has a lifttime warranty. |

| I use a 7'6 MI Mag Bulldawg Rod (2- 10 oz. casting weight). The rod works great, even with smaller lures like 2 oz jerkbaits. During the winter months I ordered some Curly Sues in 11" (Shallows and Regulars). But now I'm not sure wether the rod is suited for those lures, according to the manufacturer the Curlies are 12 oz. Does anyone throw 11" Curlies with that rod? Or do I have to buy a heavier rod? The Okumas sound great but here in Germany they are not available and shipping from the US would be much too expensive! |

| You'll like that evx rod. For throwing big dawgs only, you may have considered upsizing to the xxh. The xh will definitely do the trick though. Have fun! |

Lamiglas are great rods. I have several including the LGM80XH also rated 1-8 ounce lures. These rods are not for mag dawgs. I think 1-6 is a more realistic rating. These are not stiff rods. They are great all around rods, and handle fish well, I can "feel" light bites with reg-dawgs and jigs better than any other rod I own. I highly recommend for about anything but big rubber, and 8 ounce gliders.
I have a older lamiglas 7'6" rated 2-10 ounce that is stiff and throws bout anything. I dont think they make the XH 7-6 anymore.
Lots of inexpensive rods out there today that will work for mag dawgs. |

| Mark- I have not used the 8'0 H, but the Lamiglass 8'6" XXH is the best rod I have ever owned and this is my rod of choice for mag dawgs. Like the 8' this rod is not stiff, but has plently of backbone with a soft tip to get the job done. Many people prefer a stiffer rod, but I throw mags alot and beleive in this rod. |
