I was at the toronto Fishing and Boating Show and was speakign to the guys at the Okuma booth. they were taking about a reel that was going to replace the Induron and mentioned that is was going to come in a 700 series. apparently with a levelwind and thumb bar. Does anyone have any information on this?
Thanks,
Matt

Thumb Bar, and a level wind, but it doesn't look like it comes in a 700 series? Still looks pretty good to me. Getting sick of rebuilding my Abus every other year!

There's more coming yet. Not sure how soon, but not too long. I sort of expect good things.

My feeling is the Akena is the replacement for the San Juan not the Induron.

The guys at the booth said they have seen it and held it. The thumb bar goes about half way across the spool. I guess with a 700 series, having it go all the way would be kind of pointless. I am in the market for a big blade reel and from what they were saying, I might just put the purchase on hold until "July".

The Akena replaces the Induron until the new reels are ready to rock. The main difference between the Induron and Akena is the reel body. Induron was machined, Akena cast.

So the Akena isn't the "new" reel I have been waiting to come out? Is the new reel comparable to the old Induron, and does it come in the 250 and 400 sizes also?

Thanks,

The technical specs are similar. Yes it does come in the 250 and 400 sizes, and it's about $99.00 retail. I had a couple in my hands this weekend, nice reel.

How about a 700? Was that just a rumor or is there some truth to it?

We'll see when Okuma releases the new reels. I suspect I'll see some new Okuma products at ICAST this summer.

Sorry for all the questions - maybe I will have to email Mark Rogers, but it sounds like the Akena and the new reel are pretty much the same too? If the Akena and Induron are similar, and the Akena and the new reel are similar, then what is the difference between the new reels and the Akena? I'm guessing it either will be a pretty good reel for $99.

I just spoke with a guy in the service department at Okuma. Although he did not have much information on the reel yet as it is still in R&D, he did say that it is suppose to come in a 700 model, have a level wind and a thumb bar.

Not much to go on, but I am excited to see it. Sounds like exactly what I want/need.

Sorry to let you all down... No 700 size coming out. We are in the testing stages of a new 400 reel that will be the replacement for the Red Isis.
