It sounds like there is a lot of experience on the forum in regards to the new HDS units. So here it is.

I have a 520c and LGC-3000 that will be moving to the bow to make room for my new HDS-8, I intend in networking them together to share waypoints and such, so here are my questions.

1. If I have the units networked, will they both use the LGC-3000? or can the HDS-8 use it internal antenna and the 520c use the 3000. What are the pros and cons of doing it either way, if that is a possibility?

2. I assume the internal antenna will perform better than the 3000 on the HDS. Is this true?

3. The main thing I want to do is share waypoints, in other words if I am at the console and add a waypoint I want it to show up on the bow 520c and also in the reverse direction. Does the desire to use this functionality have any bearing on how the units use their antennas, or does the unit simple send the GPS coordinates over the network and add it to the other unit.

Your help is appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

1. If the units are networked with the LGC-3000, everything will work. I'm not sure if the internal antenna will work for the network. I have a call into a Lowrance tech friend who will let me know. He did not think the internal antenna would work with a LCX or LMS older model. If you have two HDS units, the internal antenna will work.

2. Not sure about this yet.

3. In order to share way points, both units have to be turned on. You can't pull your trolling motor up and turn your locator off and expect to be able to get your way points on the other unit when it's turned off. So keep both your units turned on when punching way points in.

I talked with two Lowrance technicians. They both said your suppose to be able to use the internal antenna on the HDS and have that networked with a LMS or LCX unit and have that work. However, both of the techs have yet to have a network setup using the internal antenna of the HDS. They also said they've only used the LGC-3000 for a network or have setup two HDS units in a network.

If you've got a LGC-3000, use it, it'll probably be easier.

I will give that a try, now to find the best price.

Thank you for your input.
