| Frankie or Scott & Sean B. Both our top notch builders with different styles, but good fundamental rod building skills. I have rods frome both & I'm very pleased!! Both Frank & the Bermingham brothers are class act guys who will walk you through any questions you have. Tons of experience with these two builders.

Location: midwest | Sean and Scott at Dadson's base their work on building the correct rod for your application that fits you best. Their work is heavily based along correct rod lengths and handle lengths/ diameters to fit your hands and rod blank actions for the baits you plan on throwing on it . You get to pick your rear grip and fore grip lengths and diameters and can even be at their house when they spin the cork down so you can be sure it fits you correctly. You also pick thread colors, guides, reelseats and if you want a regular or split style grip ect. I would say to contact both builders and tell them what you want to create , get some ballpark pricing, and find out the time frame to complete a rod and make a decision for yourself on which builder to use.

| Been using custom rods for about 25 years. Frank is a personal friend and is a phenomenal builder with great attention to detail. Over the years , I've had probably 15 or so from Thornes(1st one in 1985) and each and every one was perfect. I've also chatted with the Bermingham Bros. at shows over the years and know from just talking to them that they have the "goods" as well. All that being said, I use Frankie Rods exclusively these days, except for my Sage's from Thornes. Best advice is to do your research and check out(physically) the options available. You'll get a lot of opinions on a message board for one reason or another. It's the details and service that make the difference.I have laughed the past couple years hearing horror stories of guides twisting on hooksets etc.. Guides underwrapped? Ground? Tip wrapped? Talk to the different builders. Interview them. A custom rod is a big investment. Don't bargain shop either. You get what you pay for. Cheaper may cost you in the long run, kinda like discount bungee jumping.LOL.

| I am friends with Frank B., Sean and Scott Birmingham. You cannot go wrong with either of them. I know you can customize the rod you want with either of them. I have seen more of Frank's rods as he belongs to my club and I have seen his shop, I have not seen a better looking rod ever and I know they are well built and are favorites of everyone who owns them Like said above too Sean and Scott know rods inside and out. I know they build rods for extremely specific applications as I have seen them have some out of the box applications while fishing. Good guys who really know their stuff. |

I know everyone has different experiences, my experience with pro edge is that the rod I ordered could not be provided, and the agreed upon replacement never made it to me either. I never heard anything as to why.

| I use Grandt Rods at grandtrods.com. Jim Grandt is a stand up guy and a real innovator in rods blanks. You can customize every aspect of the rod.
I own 14. Lifetime warranty (even if it's your fault) That's tough to beat.

| Had my first custom (Predator) built last year by Thorn Brothers. There is nothing on the market that compares to it in my opinion. There seems to be a few top notch rod builders out there because I asked the same question last year prior to my purchase and the same names are coming up again this year. I'm having a XH 9' 6" Predator built this spring by Thorn Brothers to compliment the H 9' Predator I currently own. When you spend as much time on the water as most of do it's worth every penny. These baby's are in our arms all day long and you better love them. It sounds like you have some nice options but Thorns is within a 1/2 hour from me and there service is top notch! |
