I'm taking my 4yrs old nephew ice fishing for the first time near Chaska (he lives there). Does anyone have any panfish/hammer handle spots you can give me in that area. I don't care if the pannies are 4 inches long...

I don't have a snowmobile/ATV there so I'll have to either drive my truck on the ice or pull it by sled.

His dad is a real pretty boy, so I’m his only avenue to the outdoors world. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks guys,
Dave

I dont ice fish much anymore but used to do the metro,,,Oxygen levels this time of year can be an issue on some of the small west metro lakes,,,I used to pull fair sized sunnys and decent metro perch- 9 inchers out of a little Eden Prarie lake called Red Rock I dont know if it has an aireator yet,,,the deeper basin of Whaletail was always good for 3 -to the pound crappies,,,The deeper basin of Auburn just past victoria lots of small pike and average sunnys
Waconia is always a good choice but I heard it is bad traveling with all the snow.
checking fishingminnesota.com and hitting the panfish and ice fishing forums might help you

I know it is not too close to Chaska but Grey's bay on Lake Minnetonka is a sure thing when it comes to panfish. Just walk on out, its probably less than a hundred yards. Waxies for the panfish and shiners on a tip up will definately produce some pike. Good luck wherever you go, taking kids fishing is the best.

Waconia lake is a nice lake to get some crappie.

Havent been out on the ice in a while but if I were to go I would recomend Tonka , Waconia and Minnewashta on 41 between Hyway 5 and 7 I always got bit by the hammer handles there ( look on the north shore of the longest point of Minnewashta sorry cant remember the name of the point) good luck
