Hi Guys:

I through a DCG about 95% of the time last summer on LOTW. I have small hands and it gets tough cranking all day palming a full sized musky reel.

I use a real low (4.2) gear ratio reel to crank them in and have had really good luck.

How many of you guys use a smaller low profile style reel to crank these in? And if so, which ones and what are the gear ratios? Do they pull them in as easily as the musky reels?

Thanks - Ball Cap

Have you tried the Revo Toro? Great reels made to throw big baits

Don't palm your reel!
Instead, hold in front of the reel on the rod where the handle is.
This was the best advice I took from a guided trip on Mille Lacs.
I have a Revo Toro and a Calcutta TE, neither of which would be comfortable to palm all day.

I've tried holding the rod in front of the reel and cannot do it. I feel like I have no control ... even though I suspect when you get used to it you get better control?

Midget, force yourself to do it for a weekend and you'll get used to it in no time. Your hands/wrist will last ten times longer!

Better control, more power on the hookset, and more endurance. Force yourself to use the foregrip for a few days. You won't regret it.

Exactly. Doesn't take long to get used to holding the foregrip. My wrist was absolutely killing me last year until I started holding the foregrip. After that, life was good.

Can anyone tell me how much line is retrieved per turn for the Toro Winch 60?
