I know that most of us have a great time fishing, but do you do it for fun & profit, the chance to throw a couple of lures with great friends, or the wife wants you out of the house? I have a great time fishing with friends while the wife is shopping.

I am not married. But anyone who has a wife who WANTS them to go fishing is a very lucky man--so long as wife is not fooling around while husband is on the water. Likewise anyone who has a wife who will go fishing with them--they are lucky.
I can imagine the conflicts: husband wants to go to Lake Nipeeing for a week in the summer. Wife wants to go to South Jersey. What do you do? Buy a surf rod?
And how do you justify the costs? The boat? The rods and reels? The too many lures?
I can hear it: "Junior can't go to Boston College (or any other expensive school) because you've spent everything on fishing."
I could see a wife walking out if the fishing thing goes too far.
Oh well...

I'm one of the lucky ones, my wife knows what I spend and even comes along with sometimes. I'm out there for the fun, but if I make a few bucks to thats good to.

My wife can't go shopping, she has to help me with lures!
As for "fun", it sure beats a real job!!! Plus you always know who to blame for any screw ups......

Fishing is my life, I run a sport shop in northern WI and also guide. In the winter months I work a few shows for the companies that help me out. I'ts a blast. I'm not getting rich on it but I really enjoy working in the fishing industry. I guess when it becomes work I'll quit but I don't see that happening...

W/ me, it's all business. Fun is just an occasional by-product.

Sorno, me too.

I have to go shoot some Ice video today, and Sue is holding down the port seat in the Frabill today. Under contract, so I have absolutely no choice.

I have a cool job.

I go fishing to get away from my high-pressure computer engineering job.

Sure wish I had a job designing something fun like fish finders. The system tests would be a blast. Might even have to go to remote places to make sure the equipment works there too.

Pure enjoyment. Love to fish muskies with family and friends. Taking it to the next level would be the dream, as i enjoy nothing more. Just being on the water is good for mw though

Bruce I can say it's all about the thrill of the hunt!!!

For years my girlfriend, then wife always complained I spent way too much time on the water and ice. So I did the smartest decision back in 1998 to become a guide. Since I was always on the water taking people fishing why not make it a job.

Born was Mike's Extreme Guide Service and now it's a 2nd full time. Wife is all good with it because it'a a 2nd income. I love it because it gets me on the water almost every night after work and the weekends. The days I don't have booked I have to get out and work on new patterns and spots. Homework I tell her but it has to be done to stay on the fish.

Great job, lots of rewards and perks.

FUN BUISNESS!!!!!

I have a lot of respect for the people that make their living as fishing guides. Based on the conversations that I have had with several professional guides it is not the path to fame and fortune. In fact many in the business struggle just to pay the bills. Those in the business that live in remote places like Northern Wisconsin, Northern Minnesota, UP Michigan or Northwest Ontario do so because of the lifestyle and the opportunities to pursue their passion for the outdoors. Many professional guides have to hold a 2nd or 3rd job in order to make ends meet.

I love fishing and enjoy the serenity and solitude of being in the outdoors. I really enjoy catching fish, especially muskies, but more and more I realize that it is how I recharge my mental batteries. I enjoy the scenery and seeing the wildlife too. I'm not interested in competing or entering tournaments, but understand why others would like it. I have a career I enjoy that also pays well and I have no interest in turning my favorite hobby into work. When I tie flies or make bucktails, I use them myself or give them to friends and family because I don't want it to be work.

I've come to see fishing in my life as something important for me, kind of like going to church. I usually don't skip church to go fishing (sometimes I do), but I also don't skip fishing to go to church or do any of the other important things in my life. I've got a family, so sometimes fishing has to take a backseat to my responsibilities to my wife and daughter. I wouldn't have it any other way. I'm lucky that wife understands my fishing addiction even though she doesn't share it. Time spent fishing with friends or family is a precious gift, especially time spent fishing with kids. I say fish as much as you can while not neglecting the other important responsibilities in your life. Like so many other things in life, enjoyment in fishing is about balance and putting everything in its proper perspective.
