JoMusky Weight on Crank?

Has anyone ever done this? I was thinking of putting one on a Big Game to try and get it to run deeper as well as suspend a little. I got a few Suicks a little more neutral on their rise today as well as a Reef Hawg to suspend. Just wondering if you can do the same with a crank or if the weight hanging off the belly will screw with the action of the bait?

I'd be hesitant. The Big games are thinner baits and finding a true center might prove difficult. I would worry that it would disturb the action of the lure, if not ruin it all toghether!

Wrapping wire around your hooks is another method you could try. Also you can bend the lexan lip UP and it will run deeper. Combine the two and perhaps you get what you are after.

Have done this mod to a crane so it can be done. It is a side mount screw in weight on each side and it's just behind the head of the bait. Sean and Scott Birmingham came up with it, works well and I am sure it would work on a big game too.

That's what I was worried about Muskellunged. I have the lips bent up and it does get them deeper, but was looking for a little more depth than that. What do you use for wire when wrapping hooks? Does that affect the action at all?

Soldering wire. Can't recall the gauge but with three hooks wrapped it still only slows the rise a little bit. I think if you want it to really hang, you should try what TM suggested, it sounds like a great idea.

ToddM, is the weight in the middle vertically on the bait? When you say just behind the head, is it well in front of the balance point on the bait?

No, they screw into the side of the bait and it looks like frankenstien bolts, I did it to a 7' crane, works great. The screw in goes through the bait so the weights are attached to the same point on each side. I will try and get a pic up on this thread.

You can also buy a different bait to get what you want as well. The H2O tackle cranky nitro in the slow rise would get you what you want.

A picture would be great. I got that it was in the side of the bait, but was wondering how high on the bait the inserts are placed. I may look into the cranky nitro, but I would think a DDD will serve the same purpose as well.

This is more about just looking for something to do. I had fun putting the inserts on the jerk baits and getting them right and wondered if it was possible to modify a crank as well.

I'll second the Cranky Nitro from H2O. Roger also has a new crank the Switchback that has two screw incerts.
One in front and one midbelly. They really looked good in the tank at Milwaukee. Suspended even with the screw incerts
