Anyone see these rods at the show? Called "Reaction Strike". they were priced pretty good at $60 for 8', 70 for 8.6 and 80 for the 9'. They claimed to be the mfg of the bulldawgs rods for MI. Looking at the two rods, they were similar.

They seemed to be a great deal. I picked one up to try it and put in my boat for others to use in a pinch.. anyone else familar with these?

From what I know those are the same (or very similar) rods as Musky Innovations rods. Made in the same factory on the same line, same materials, etc.... Just the label is different from my understanding. Funny though as Reaction Strike makes the rods for Musky Innovations and they are undercutting them by this much. For $60 they might be a good buy!

If I'd been at the show I'd have bought one for that price.

James, are you still offering $100 shipped on your new rods?

Yes on the $100/rod delivered. I am doing this for a while longer until retailer(s) or distributor(s) pick them up and then I have to pull this deal. Just doing this to get some rods out so people can try them out. So far I think guys like to pay wholesale prices for rods. Wow, imagine that Close on a few deals right now.

I did and talked to them. Great rods for someone on a tighter budget. They do manufacture the Bulldawg rods.

As far as the Reaction Strike rods, they are made with the same material as the blanks used in the Bulldawg rods. Though the blanks may not exactly be the same, they are very, very similar. What is different about them are the components being used - the cork, guides, and reel seat. They are able to sell these rods cheaper, as they don't have as much money wrapped up in the components like the Bullwadg rods (i.e. - they are not made with Fuji Alconite guides).

They have 3 different series of Bulldawg rods - Bulldawg series, Evolution Series, and soon to be out, the Economy Series (or something like that) - prices varying based on the components being used.

Then, they have the Reaction Strike series, which they offer to appeal to the folks may be on a tighter budget than the average person and/or don't fish as often.
IMO, look like a great rod to me with a great warranty - can't go wrong at all with the $60, $70, and $80 tags they had on them.

I must also say that James has built a great rod in the Tackle Industries rod as well. I looked at them at the Chicago show, very well made - very light, very strong, backed by a great warranty.

The story I got was that the guides were the main difference. They claim that the Alconites used on the Bulldawgs have to be purchased in sets of 10 I think is what they said. Each Bulldawg has 11 guides so the cost of two full sets of guides are built into the price of the rod. The lesser guides can be bought singly so they only have to buy and account for the exact amount needed per rod.

Sounds kind of fishy to me but I know nothing about rod building. Maybe one of the other manufacturers here could chime in on it.

I don't think anyone that manufactures hundreds or thousands of rods HAS to buy in sets of 10, likely they don't even buy in sets. I can see a cost difference of $10. Most likely they're clearing out discontinued items to make room for new product.
