Location: South Portsmouth, KY | Yea first of march can be good but just like any other time of year weather can play a factor. the water temps might be a little behind lookin at the cold in the 15 day forecast and with the cold we have had pretty much all of this year. water on average is usually 38-42 the first week of march. |

Location: Elko - Lake Vermilion | Here is a question for you locals that fish here,.......... are the Shad in Cave, Gizzard Shad (the larger ones) and what other fish in Cave Run do Muskies eat ?
I've seen some shad as big as 6-9" long in the past years here.
AND,
Do you guys have any success with Top Water baits in the Spring ?
Justin, I'll check in with ya, in a couple of weeks.
Thanks, Jerome |

I am leaving for the Cave on Sunday and will be fishing Monday, Tuesday & part of Wednesday.
I will drop a report on here when I get back.
Some guys are getting some fish on Kinkaid Lake in southern Illinois. It would be closer and the water is already in the mid 40's there right now. ust a thought ... |

Location: KY | I was on the water yesterday afternoon. Air temps in the 50s with sunny skies and muddy water at 38-39. I saw some Ice in the marina area and on north facing shores. All ice will be gone in a day or two with the forecast for 60s and rain mid week.
The most notable events of the day where a sluggish battery, that had to be jumped, and broken St Croix. It was my oldest rod and had been wearing a scar for most of last summer. It failed during a hook set that turned out to be a stump.
No fish for me.

Wow. I know the spot you’re talking about. If I didn’t know better I would say your right. It’s Scotts though. |
