I got an e-mail from a rep from Minn Kota today confirming the fact that if an i-pilot is installed on any power drive motor it will render the pedal useless. Only the remote will be able to control the motor. The pedal however on the Terrova , when an i-pilot is installed ,will continue to work just fine. Why would they set it up like this? So if I put it on the power drive, I would have to use the remote only. I might be able to get used to it ,but the remote is huge. Not at all like the "key-phob" of the co-pilot. It's the same size as a tv remote. Any ideas? Other than go out and buy a Terrova?

That is disappointing. Was thinking about getting one also but still want to be able to use of the foot pedal. Oh well now I have a reason to not spend more money.

It seems like minnkota always has really good ideas that they put about 90% effort into. If they just put a little more thought into it they would blow everyone else out of the water.IMO.

Examples:
Genesis
Wireless foot pedal that only works on one motor, that is now absolete.
No temp gauge in the first universal sonar.
The unnecessarily slow turn time on all powerdrive units.

Don't get me wrong, I love my autopilot/copilot/powerdrive, and I would suggest one to anyone looking to buy a new trolling motor. I just think that it could be so much more.

If anyone that works for Minnkota is reading this and would like to send me a new trolling motor every year to test out and give them suggestions on what they could do different. I would do that. For free. Just let me know.;)

The Minn Kota rep also said that he thought the technology of the trolling motor following waypoints/trails through the gps/sonar is only a couple years away. So while I probably won't be putting the I-pilot on mine, at least I won't waste money on it for a couple years of work. I still find it stupid to even market the i-pilot for powerdrives. They even sell new motors with i-pilot factory installed, but you still get the useless foot pedal. I agree with you welldriller, they could blow motorguide out of the water if they were a little smarter about the new things they put out.

Wow, I didn't know that. I don't think I would like using the remote all the time. I fish a lot of timber at times and would miss the foot pedal while casting. It seems the install of a simple switch would have solved this problem??? This would give you a I-pilot mode and a manual mode. But what do I know??
