| Ok, poor Down To Earth takes off work early and drives up here to fish Minnetonka with me for the outing, right?
Well, I had a liner sprayed in my truck today, and it ended up running a bit later than I thoguht it would, so I couldn't go get the boat until abotu 3pm. By the time I do the hiddily ha of moving all my brother's stuff to get at my boat, get it hooked up and start heading for Tonka, it's 4pm, so I'm in a hurry cuz I know that rush hour can be a pain, and I didn't really know where this specific landing was, so I rush out.
Well, I get to the landing, get on the water, etc, and drop my trolling motor in... Nothing. It gives me the "Not 24 volt" error message. I spend several minutes doing the normal troubleshooting, checking fuses, etc. Motor had only been used for about 10 minutes since last charge, so they should have been up. Well, turns out we (I'm blaming my brother) left the motor plugged in. The Pinpoint has an "auto on" when it hits the water, so apparently will run a small constant drain. Both batteries are dead as a doorknob. No trolling motor, not even for positioning.
All is not lost. Muskie Treats, the crown prince boy scout of MF (had a battery tester ready to confirm battery deadness) points out some trolling patterns we can do, so we went and tried that some, and did a couple drifts. I had one hit/miss of unknown variety, but didn't see anything.
Got maybe 45 minutes to an hour of fishing in, when I cast out my orange Reef Hawg and begin the normal retrieve, when I see a boat come screaming in way too close. I yell and wave at him, but he comes blasting by abotu 30-40 feet away, directly over my line. It tangles in his prop, and starts zinging out. I thought "Oh ****" and pointed my rod right at the boat and held on tight so that the line would get to the end of the spool and snap rather than pulling on the rod. Wasn't gonna get the rod ripped out of my hands.
Line snapped, and so did I. Full spool of Cortland Spectron gone, brand new reef hawg gone. Chased the SOB down and expressed my displeasure with his intelligence. He declined my suggestion that he pay for my line and lure, and drove away. I was too mad to memorize his boat reg number, so then the chase was on. Treats was in hot pursuit while I was in contact with Sheriff Water Patrol (much appreciated, Treats) Eventually he got away, but not for long. There is a photo of the offending boat, and the sheriff is sending me a complaint form, so we'll get the number yet.
But to backtrack a moment, as we are WAY far away from the landing chasing after the knob-gobblers, I glance down and notice that my gas tank is on "E". So, let's introduce the possibility of running out of gas to the whole evening. And the wind stopped, so we couldn't even do any drifts, cuz we'd just sit there. For what it's worth, Andy (D2E) was a pretty good sport abotu what had to be a pretty frustrating situation for him to fall into.
No trolling motor, critically low fuel, no line on my jerkbait rod, no wind, and no fish.[:knockout:] Oh, and I take my boat home, and (this is actually good me news, but bad me outing news) get hooked up with a guy who wants to buy my motorcycle, and it's past 11pm by the time that sorts itself out, Savage being geographically challenged with Medina, no time to make the bar meet.[:(]
Batteries are charging overnight, SuperAmerica has 93 octane, I've got a backup reel spooled with Spectron, and there are muskies in that lake. Tomorrow's another day.

| Daggone dude! Hopefully your brother will read this + offer to mow your yard...wash your truck...gas up your stuff...purchase you a small battery voltage meter...+ do a lot more for you! The worse part was the dude zipping in on you...is there a 150 ft. rule where you were? At least you sold your scooter![:sun:] | |

| Crap. Now I overslept this morning.[:blackeye:] | |
| | |
| Man the way this is going you will be better off staying at home on Sunday.
I hope your luck turns around.
| | |
| I cant wait!!!
Soon I will be living a little over an hour from Tonka and this is what I got to look forward too..LOL[]
Stuff like that really happens everywhere too. Maybe we should start a "Americas Most Wanted Boating Violaters" on site. We could post the photos of there rig and all give them heck at the landings. LOL[]

| Here's mine:
Work the morning trying to confirm some orders, get some trouble shooting done, and get packed for the Tonka outing. Get the rig all packed, get the MuskieFIRST Camera and Laptop all cased and in the truck, and head for Minneapolis with Sue.
Not 90 miles from home, the engine begins to overheat. I try to use the heater core to cool it down, no dice. If I slow down to under 45 MPH, all is well. OK-- it is the fan thermister, for sure, and the Truck is an Isuzu, so not much chance of an auto parts store rescue now. Limp back to home, get here late evening, and unpack the whole mess again. I scheduled the truck for Monday repair, so Beav will be driving for our Challenge [:blackeye:]To be fair, the truck has 140,000 on it, so one might expect a repair now and again.
So I get home, and go to dinner in Sue's car. Decide to go to the lake Keith and Brandy, Brian and Sarah, and some friends are fishing for bass and muskies, and can't find the thing to save my life. I intended to wait at the landing to see how they did. Bad directions, but the ride was fun. We saw over 50 deer, including a MONSTER buck not 1/4 mile from my house. [:0]
SO here I am, only able to go 45 MPH to the lake tonight if at all. I missed a guaranteed good time in the big city, and was unable to take advantage of the Thick One's hospitality and singing skills.[:((] [:knockout:]

| I officially nominate myself for the official Outing Flake award.
Well, as you can see from my short post I made this am while the dog was doing her thing in the back yard before I took off, today tried to measure up to yesterday for me. I had TWO alarms set for 4:45 and 4:50, and somehow managed to unconsciously either turn them off or ignore them somehow, and the first numbers I saw when I opened my eyes this am were 7:06. I placed a quick call to Cady (no answer) and then MuskieTreats, who told me that he thought Andy did get in a boat with somebody, so that made me feel a bit better, and he also said the fish were biting, which didn't [] since I was an hour away from being on the water. A later call to Cady on the road verified the prior info from Treats.
Nice morning, though, so it was pleasant fishing. Took off at noon so I could get all my crap wrapped up before heading out of town here tonight. How'd the island deal go? Be back tomorrow night, hopefully with some fish pics.

| Worrall,
Remember when you had an American made truck. You went fishing got there and came back.
Just a hint![;)]
Was that your sons Ford that got you finally to Canada...Yea..it was[]

| Mr. Smith,
My name is Steve, just in case you have forgotten. Also, the Chevy went through THREE transmissions before it hit 90,000. I don't think any vehicle is bulletproof, that is for sure.
| | |
| You guys would love your lives if you spent only a weekend with me fishing. You guys are only getting about a taste of the black cloud which hovers over me persistently.
Steve, tell Mr. Smith to stow it. I can produce enough evidence with only 7k mi to get everybody singing your tune....American automotive engineers, especially GM, SUCK! Anyone know a good lemon law attorney so I can buy a Sequoia like I should have in the first place?

CMunger,
Your actaully pretty lucky. What did I do this weekend
with the 'Tonka outing' basically in my back yard and
having the luxury of having a friend who lives on the
lake, soooo the whole event would have been perfect to
fish and get a chance to meet a bunch of you guys and
learn a few things from you guys ?? But NOOOOOO
I built a deck fri.evening-sat.-sun. with my brother
Hot - humid and never ending hammering, screwing and
cutting!!!!! And now I'm at work until at least 10pm
tonight - sunday night.
Sucks to hear about the rough outing. I hope the 'law'
can help you out.
Mother
ps - I hope everyone had a good time and good luck.

| The one I had a few weeks ago on the Chip ranks right up there. Got to the lake on monday aft and fished the evening. Overslept on tues morning and didn't get on the lake until 8am. tues afternoon went to nearby Black lake to fish w/some friends. Left to do some late evening fishing on the Chip before it got to dark. On the way back got a bit turned around and decided we could get back to the main road, cty B, by taking one of the many gravel/dirt backroads. about 300yds down the basically 1 lane road there was a sharp right turn. not wanting to meet anyone one the turn (there was a lot of traffic on the backroads on the way in) i kept it relatively close to the "shoulder." 1/2way around the turn, the MUD road gave way sending the truck AND boat into the muck and water. the mud was over the trailer axle. after 2 1/2 hrs. of trying every way under the sun to get out, we decided to make the 6+ mile run through the swamp/misquito hell, back to Black lake. we got there at 845, just as the fishing was getting hot for our buddies, Jack and a buddy of his. we flagged them down, ruined their night and piled into the diesel suburban. it pulled out our chevy 2x4/alumacraft rig w/out a problem. we ended up at the campground late and decided to get up early wed. we woke up to a washout, then rain, then rain, a bit of rain, and some more rain after that. it cleared up wed evening and we went over to the west side of the lake(had always walleye fished on the east side and know it like the back of my hand). got turned around going to another spot and ended up way down in the south end of the lake. got directions on how to get back to herman's landing. another night wasted. got up early on thurs to fish before we went home. didn't realize how much gas we burned the prev night( tank was full then) and ran out of gas after only about 2hrs of fishing. drifted/trolling motored to a resort about 3/4mile, bought some gas and got the !$@% off the lake and made the 3hr drive home. there's my latest disaster.
Elwood Brehmer
P.S. Jack and his buddy had a flat tire on the way to Black lake and busted the trailer axle spindle on the way back. had to desert the boat in Ladysmith and come back the next day. [:knockout:] [:blackeye:] [:((] [:(]

| Cmunger using a sophisticated spy satillite I was able to zoom in on the the boat that cut you off (via the satillite archives images) and found the boat registration to be: MN 3111 HX
The boat had the words Escape on the sides (I dont know if theat the model of the boat or what).
Cmunger I have copies of all the photos for your to mail to your home for use with the Sherriff (or I can hand deliver them to the Sherrifs office. Please e-mail me and tell me what you want to do.
