I trying to figure this deal out. Price on this rig is pretty good but something doesn't smell right. Here is the response I received. Read and let me know what you think. Thanks

Thank you for your interest in purchasing my boat. The boat is in perfect condition - like new! If you decide to buy it, you'll receive all the papers, owner manual, keys, a buy-sell contract already signed by me and the clear title. For this transaction I want to use ebay because I want to provide you a fast and very secure way. They will handle the transaction for me. You will make the payment to ebay and they will hold the money until you receive and inspect the boat. ONLY AFTER you receive the boat and you inspect it (you have 5 days for inspection) ebay will release the payment to me. The inspection time period will begin as soon as you receive the boat at your address. Meanwhile eBay will hold the money into a trust account. So, this is not a blind transaction, you can see the boat before you decide to buy it. This way we are both protected : i will know that i have a serious buyer who has the money to pay me and you will be able to see and inspect the boat before buying it .
The boat is priced to sell quickly and the final price that I'm asking for it is $4,500 including shipping and handling costs. My husband died in Iraq 3 months ago and I along with my daughter decided to sell the house and move to my sister. I can't afford to take days off my work for this sale so i'm trying to sell it online.
If you are really interested in purchasing the boat please send me your full name, shipping address and your phone number. Ebay will give you all the details regarding the shipping and payment.

I will appreciate an answer as soon as possible.

Regards!

I would guess it is a scam. I don't know where it is located, but offer to go and see it. I bet they won't get back to you. I had something similiar happen with a truck on craig's list. I said I would drive down to Indiana to look at it and, surprisingly, they never got back to me. 2008 F150 for $4500. Generally, if it too good to be true -you know the rest.

Where's it at. I'll go with you and we'll see what the deal is. I know E-BAY says not to make any transactions outside of E-BAY, so if it's not advertised there, I wouldn't think they would handle the transaction. I saw a lot of ads kind of similar when I was looking for a Harley, if it sounds too good, it probably is, but if you want to go look, let me know!

I wouldn't even respond to any more emails and block them from sending you more emails to your account. Plenty of boats out there to buy. Move on.

That is what I was thinking. I already took care of the email thing. It was on craigslist for a very short time. Looks like the angle is to get you to place the money in the "ebay" account but it actually is an off-shore account somewhere. Using the "dead husband" thing really irks me. Be crook if you want but leave the soldiers out of it.

Scam,

I am in law enforcement and deal with these things all the time...Use common sense, if it seems too good to be true IT IS!!! Just delete the emails and end contact.

I have been looking around on craigslist for a boat to purchase. I mostly look here in PA, but usually plan a trip to Minnesota, so I check out there. There was a boat posted in the Pittsburgh area that I replied to and got almost the same response as the one you posted. I then looked at the MN and saw the same boat and got the same response. Funny how it was posted in two different states It is a scam.

I was looking at a camaro one time with a Tomahawk phone number. They assured me that once the money was safely in Nigeria, that I would get the car. The woman that owned the car had to move there for work after her husband was killed in Iraq.
I wish I could find the people that come up with this stuff and beat them with a piece of garden hose.

I had a buddy that found a boat online in California (he is in MN) that he insisted on buying without looking at because the price was so good. I warned him a million times, but he still Western Unioned them $2000 for the "deposit" and the crazy thing is they actually had a website built that showed some BS tracking of the boat cross country. Of course the boat never showed up and he was out the $2000. IDIOT !!!

I bought my boat on ebay, after i won the bidding war, i had to put down a $300 deposit thru paypal, and then i went to see the boat to see if it checked out and was in working order... It was, so i paid him the balance due after i inspected it.. was still worried about hidden problems, but all was good..

so yes, that deal sounds fishy....
