took my wife and 2 girls to lotw last year. the girls are 9 and 11 so a little older than yours. we stated at canadian haven resort on sabaskong bay. the lodge is right on the highway just outside of nestor falls. she could go shopping in sioux narrows and a little farther north to kenora. brian and kathy own the place and took good care of us. as for the fishing, well it is sabaskong bay. plenty of muskies right around camp. you don't have to travel far to find a good place to fish. the farther from camp the less boats you see, but there is always a place to fish. pressure is not that bad. even my wife got a 42 within a mile of camp. they have website at Canadian Haven Resort. bugs are not that bad there on the highway. the worst places are the camps nestled back in a weedy bay somewhere. it is canada so there are always mosquitoes. the black flies are hit and miss, sometimes bad sometimes nonexistent. water temps in july ,which is when we go, are usually lower to mid 70s. you can have malor swings either way depending on the spring they have. usually the mid part of july is beautiful weather, also with exceptions. last summer was the worst weather in 25 years for us. water was 62, 25 mph wind for 4 days straight, rain, rain, rain. caught some quality fish despite the weather including a 45 and 50. raised more than 50 muskies in the week . hope this helps. call me or pm if want more info. 765 427 5751 todd

We go to Canada every year around the last week of July to the first part of August. As far as the skeets and black flies, when the sun starts to go down in the evening and you get back to the docks, don't mess around. Get to the cabin or they will carry you there. Like they said above, flies are hit and miss, just carry some high octane (deet) spray.

Have Fun!

I live across from Canadian Haven and it is one of the best camps for people with children. Lots of water toys, game room, etc. Brian and Kathy have kids of their own with them also. Best time for muskies is from opener (3rd Saturday in June) to the third week of July. Bugs are not that bad daytime but mosquitos are bad at dusk and for an hour after. Black flies (ankle biters) require the use of Deep Woods Off on pants legs and/or socks. Canadian Haven has the best rental boats available if you have that need. Feel free to message me for more information. Heck...if I don't have company when you come, I'll be happy to take you out for some muskie fishing and mark up your map for you. No...I am not a guide, just a muskie fisherman who has been fishing LOTW for 56 years. Be glad to help you out. I love meeting people new to LOTW.

Spend the money and get yourself a bug suit. As soon as the sun starts to set you can literally hear them come "buzzing" in from a long distance away. They will carry you away they are so bad!!! Then after a couple hours of draining your blood they are just gone!

wind not a factor in the nw angle - thats funny right there...LOTW is huge and while its true you can get out of the wind to fish - there are plenty of days (almost every week) you will get wet running even if you own a 620

My family and I took our first trip LOTW last year and we stayed in Sabaskong Bay. At first we were very overwhelmed with the amount of structure that looked good. Bob Pieske offered to take my brother and I out for a day of fishing. Bob also marked up a map and helped by telling us what we should look for in a spot. Bob is very knowledge about LOTW especially Sabaskong Bay and he was able to put us on a couple of fish. Bob is a great fishermen and great guy to fish with. He taught us a lot so I highly recommend taking him up on his offer.
