| First off, this will be long, I'm sorry. Secondly, yes, I have the search function, and I have used it a lot, specifically on this type of issue.
I have been using an old, gold Abu 7000 HSN (which has not had any problems so to speak, besides for free line from the spool catching the levelwind pawl when casting bucktails into the wind occasionally) for a while and actually switched the power handle to a power sized paddle handle for all-purpose use because I knew it wasn't doing the full job on "power/speed" fishing.
My questions are.. what differences do guys who have used both the 20 and 30 size Saltist levelwinds found in casting distance? (I am not interesting in the 40 even with the extra line retrieve) Is this due to the additional width keeping line beneath the top of the levelwind guide (for the 30) or for the shorter side to side distance the line travels to get through the wind (for the 20) And what have you found in terms of backlash differences (same issues for both sizes) (JSondag you seen to have used both)?
I was a bass guy so I've done more than enough fiddling with spool tension and brake control and feel confident on that issue. I know that the non-levelwinds have been used by beach casters because of the amazing spool speed, but do the levelwinds cast as far as my HSN without a problem or will it lead to problems if I try to huck a bait that far?
Also, if you have used both the Saltist and Tekota 500 with the automatic clutch from Rollie and Helen's, what are your thoughts between the two. Sorry for the long wind and hope you guys can help me out. | |
