| I spent the last two years fishing Monksville Reservoir in New Jersey just for Muskies in a Sit-On-top Kayak. I learned a lot and now it's time to move up to fishing from a boat. The Reservoir has a 10 HP limit so I picked up a 14 foot Sea Nymph with a 9.9 four stroke Merc. I’m not interested in catching numbers just size. I’m going to troll in the daytime and cast in the nighttime. For trolling I plan on using 10 to 13 inch Believers & Jakes and also Pounders. The Reservoir is very deep with lots of open water so I’ll be trolling the deeper water looking for life on the machine. My friend does well trolling around 3 MPH about 12 feet down. Do you think I should hook the Believer in the top clip with a short line or in the bottom clip with a long line? I plan on using 40 LB mono with a three foot Fluorocarbon leader. Also do the Pounders need a trolling weight to get down to around 12 feet? For colors I like black & orange, yellow with black stripes and any shade of brown with a white belly. For casting at night it’s Cowgirls, Raiders & H2O’s. Black , Pink and blue & silver are my favorite nighttime colors. I like braid with a 7’ 6” rod for casting.
Thanks in advance for any comments positive or negative.
I don’t need to use that silly game clip anymore.

Location: Lebanon,Mo | Your 13" Believer is very bouyant and you really need thinner line than the 40lb mono.Consider braided line (65-80lb),and use the top eye in that bait.If you send me a PM,I will give you some depth charts for trolling the baits you listed. |

Location: Elko - Lake Vermilion | 40 LB. Mono and Pounders don't mix !
Up grade to 80 pound line, if you want to keep any of those lures...... and get yourself a GOOD Muskie net ,with good hook cutters and release tools.....
Don't forget to Have Fun ! Good Luck.

Location: Sw Pennsylvania | I'll just add that theres alot of good trolling baits just across the way from you in PA and WV such as wileys, leos, tuff shad and legends and Grandmas. They all catch fish and can cover a wide variety of depths. If your going for bigger profile lures i'd go with Legend perchbaits. You wont have to let much line out to get down 12'.

Location: Elko - Lake Vermilion | Oh ya,
Mag Shads Will put fish in your boat for sure.... Hook on the deep eye for the Believer, and if your going to troll Bulldawgs, you'll need to add weight to get it down there.

| If I were you I would get some Musky Magnet crankbaits, in jointed and straight models, they are made of wood so every one is just slightly different. They have a very nice walk to them, that alot of the plastic lures don't. Also get some cannonball weights they allow you to get lures down to the depth your looking for with out a ton of line, and they get lures deeper than they ever were designed to go. Example= 25' of line with a 4oz ball at 3.8mph makes a jointed dr hit bottom in 12'.

| Guys,
Thanks for the Reply’s and PM’s. I though it would be easier to troll and fight the fish with Mono and a long leader but it seems nobody likes that idea so I‘ll load up the reels with braid.
James, I already have a nice selection of your lures, Dominatrix, Booty tails, 11” Mag Shads, Super Ciscos & Mag Super D Swim baits. The Booty tails sometimes spin a little but with some bending I can usually get them to run straight.
Jake, It’s hard to measure a kayak Musky. Fighting the fish usually attracts some attention so I’ll just ask the person in the kayak or boat that is now only two feet away from me while I’m trying to land the fish to take a quick pic then let her swim away. My heaviest kayak fish was a Striped Bass.
Thanks again for everybody's help !
