Location: Michigan | I can't believe I didn't know these existed. A freind bought this to my attention. I just talked to Dual Pro, and it really does sound like a sweet deal. Basically you connect the unit between the start battery and the TM batteries.
As you run the big motor down the lake, the charge that would normally go back in to the start battery "spills over" in to this unit, and then to the TM batteries. Said to extend TM battery life within a normal day by 30% and reduce the amount of time needed to recharge the batteries after a day on the water. They seem pretty reasonable in their price as well.

Anyone have any first hand experience?

| I haven't run one since I have an optimax, but have been told on several occasions that they are no no's on the optis. The optis apparently need all the juice that they're charging system puts out to run the electrical side of things. I can attest to this since I need to run two starting batteries to keep my large sonars going. |

| I have been using the Dual Pro Charge on the run but I am considering removing mine. While using it I have blown 2 powerheads on my Evinrude in 4 years. I don't know for sure that this was the culprit but have also heard that charge on the run is potentially bad on Optimax's and E-tecs. Would love to hear more from people in the know or with similar experiences before I remove it. I do love the charge on the run feature. Every time you drop the trolling motor the batteries at full charge. Good thing because when your motor blows you'll need them to get back to the dock! |

Do you think that the Dual Pro has caused your engin to blow....?
After 2 blown heads, I would want to know for sure what the problem is, and not just take a guess at it....Something doesn't sound right about possibly blaming the Charging System.

| No, I am not blaming the charger. I have heard however that some on-board chargers have been to blame for blown powerheads...for sure. They weren't Dual Pro Chargers. I am not saying that my Dual Pro on the run charger is to blame but after two blown powerheads I am starting to wonder if maybe I should just remove it altogether...and probably will. I have always had Dual Pro Chargers and they have always been fine. I'm not trying to pick on Dual Pro. |
