| I'm coming to Volk Field (by Camp Douglas off I-94) in south central WI in March for a week and will have some random down time....any suggestions for muskie shops in the area that I should hit up? |

Location: Yahara River Chain | I'm not aware of any near there. Maybe going to madioson (almost hr and a half) or up by Eau Claire like Moudly's in Chip Falls or Crazy D Tackle in Elk Mound, all those still a far bit away from where you are at.

Location: Sun Prairie, WI | Nearest one that comes immediately to mind would be Schleef's Bait Shop in Wisconsin Dells. It's not a pure musky shop, but they do sell musky baits/equipment. Here's a directory link with a map. http://www.brownbook.net/business/28708173/schleefs-bait-shop |

| If you had nothing to do for half a day, you could always drive to Smokey's Musky Shop on Pewaukee Lake, examine a pretty impressive array of baits that you don't see everywhere, then rent one of his little row boats (more if you want an outboard) and then actually fish for awhile too...you can actually row to some pretty decent spots in five minutes or less. Looks like about a 2 hour drive from where I'll be....that very well could be an option for me at least one day. Will there be open water the last week of March? |

Location: Sun Prairie, WI | Will there be open water the last week of March? Possibly, but just don't fish for muskies since the season is still closed in southern WI at that time. |

| Check out 'The Sportsman' in Appleton. It is almost directly east of where you'll be (just off Wisconsin Ave. in Appleton). It's closer than Smokeys and IMO has one of the best selections in the state behind R&H, Pastikas and Smokeys. They usually have a bunch of custom colors in stock and they're prices you can't beat. They have lower prices than Gander/Sheels/Fleet Farm on standard things like depth raiders, grandmas, etc.. |

There's also a Gander Mountain in La Crosse which will be northwest of where you are at Volk Field. It's less than an hours drive and is located right on the Interstate. Don't know what their musky selection is like, but it might be worth it to give them a call if you're interested. |

| Forget the rest, at Camp Douglas you are probably about a 2.5 - 3 hour drive from Rollie and Helens Musky Shop and the largest selection of musky baits in the world.
From Camp Douglas, take County Highway H north about 8 miles or so to State Hwy 21. Take that east about 40 miles or so to US Interstate 39 at Coloma. Take I-39 / US Hwy 51 north for about 130 miles to Rollie and Helens Musky Shop just south of Minocqua.

Bring your wallet and prepare to drool a lot...
BTW, Wisconsin musky seasons don't open until the first Saturday of May (south of state hwy 10) or the last Saturday of May (north of hwy 10).

That sounds like a place I need to stay FAAAR away from. I might take an extra travel day on the way home and hit up that place! Sounds awesome! |
