Reading about the map post, got me thinking(Again)
In what depth of water do you catch most of your muskies in? meaning,How deep is your lure/bait running when you get a muskie to hit.
Here's what I think has worked for me over the yrs. this is based on fishing Mn.,Wi. lakes, Casting 90% of the time.
Spring. 2-6 ft.
Summer.1-8 ft.
Fall. 4-10 ft.
Winter. ?
I don't troll very much ,but I'd say Trolling fish were cought with lures running between: 8-13 ft deep. (in late fall) What do you guys think?

Jerome

Almost exactly the same. I don't have the opportunity to troll much, but when I do the baits are usually down about 12'.

That sounds about right. I don't troll much, and I really haven't gotten to where I am comfortable working out a cast length, fishing the secondary breaks or some of the deeper structure with a rubber bait for example. So, for me it's a result of where I fish, how, and with what. If your lures are all running down 3-4 feet or less, guess where you are going to contact all your fish? I know those fish are out there in deeper water, but about the only time I'll go after them is fishing deep with live bait in the fall.

I used to agree almost 100% Jerome's numbers, but in the last couple of years my numbers have been trending to both extremes. I catch a bunch of fish super shallow all year, from opener until ice up I always check the tops of very shallow structure.

Now just to confuse things I have been catching just as many fish in the 12-20' range from mid June on. That really narrows things down when you are looking for the magic depth, mine is 1-20'. It sounds very vague but is brutally honest.

Thats what I'm looking for Norm.
In 11 yrs. of chasing muskies, i haven't cought anything deeper than 12-13 ft. deep.......... but over 25-30 ft. of water
I don't vertical jig much either, but some people catch fish doing this a lot..... So how deep?

I am similar to G-Rome.
Only differences are when the bite is tough, i'll go suspended. June, and late oct-Nov i was catching fish in 30-50' (sometimes 100'). June fish were high in water say 3-8' down. Fall 20' down EZ.

Tried some verticle jigging too, but didn't catch a thing. God was that boring...

I knew this one was coming.
Guess I'm in the minority group again, I've caught a lot of em deeper than 20',, sometimes even 30', got a decent 49" last fall deeper than that. I love deep water!

Jerry,
Really ,
Your catching muskies deeper than 20 ft.?? And deeper than 30 ft.??
Where are you fishing ? Il. Mn. Can. Wi. Mi, ? Are you trolling or casting ?
Catching muskies more than 30 ft. deep is crazy to me............. Explain, if possible, (sorry I'm a shallow water guy)
Thanks, Jerome
