Location: Pelican Lake/Three Lakes Chain | I really don't mind "my" bigger lakes sucking up boats. I encourage it on Pelican and Three Lakes. There are tons of spots on both and plenty of fish to go around. I expect the boat landing on Pelican to be full all of July and August.
When I go to the smaller 100-500 acre lakes I admit, I get a bit cranky when there are a couple of rigs at the landing. I guess I prefer to keep those quieter. We are fortunate in northern WI, lots of lakes and it seems as if most of the pressure has headed a bit east. |

| Last summer I was fishing from shore with my son for bass, when a guy came trolling by the same spot we were fishing in his $30.000 rig. I asked him ''how is your luck'' no responce. Just then I got a strike and I swore I heard him mumble ''Get off MY lake'' I am gratefull to the people who help clean up and stock OUR beautiful lakes beyond words! But just because you have more time to fish, or spend more money on a boat and gear than me. Does not make them yours.
My $.02 cents worth. And to some of you my opinion doesn't matter because I'm standing from shore. |

| Interesting subject.
Let's be honest - the muskie community is small and word travels. A good portion of guys will hear about a bite on a certain lake and migrate there. More times then not they do not experience the same success as those that really know that water.
Some of the big lakes in MN can absorb this kind of pressure and certain bites are well known.
What really rubs me wrong is when dudes see pics on the internet or hear about it and all of sudden start showing up on the lake you have been fishing. Why not pick a couple bodies of water and learn your own patterns? People that follow hot bites on smaller bodies of water (not the monster lakes in MN) are average fisherman and will never get better. They do not think for themselves - they just follow and sit on spots that you fish, making it difficult for you to do what you want. Hell, I konw of guys that have printed pics off of the internet and went out on certain bodies of water to find spots. How lame is that?
I think when people say "their" lakes they are referring to the ones the fish a lot. Some people lake jump - others hunker down and learn a body of water really well. My money is on the guy that spends time on a certain body of water and doesn't chase bites.
I guess I would do it to if I had no confidence in my ability to catch fish.

... orrrrr they are guys who see a hot lake/system/pattern as an opportunity to follow the average anglers and outfish them.

Trying new lakes and perhaps coming to YOUR lake is how we learn more about muskie fishing as a whole. I'd feel like I was missing out if I only fished my "home range."

If people don't want their lakes over fished then don't post pcitures or brag about where your fish were caught. |

| If you dont want anyone fishing where you are fishing...
Dont guide Dont put it on the internet Dont tell anybody Fish by yourself Dont fish at all
Then you can't complain if someone is on your lake, because just like you, they probably found out about it on their own. I really don't think there is a single person out there that hasn't gone to a lake they heard about from someone else tho... or chased a hot bite at least once.
I'd rather fish in Illinois than anywhere in the U.S., so if you see me out on your lake, don't worry, I won't be there long

Right on. Would it hurt to say "Lake X" instead of Lake Minnetonka or Lake Vermilion? Coincidentally these are some of the most pressured lakes in the universe. |

Location: McGuire AFB, NJ | Lets be real, none of the lakes in questions are owned by anyone. Any fisherman should be able to fish anywhere or any lake they please.
If you don't want people fishing your waters...keep it quiet. Loose lips...sink ships! And if someone does show up on a lake that your fishing, owell! Its their right.
I am a firm beliver in fishing etiquette. Does everybody follow it...NOPE! I'm sure at one time we have all encountered these individuals. I've even echanged words with a few boats. The sport is only getting bigger, regardless people talk and people are going to show up on waters that you wouldn't normally see them on. It's the nature of the beast.

LOL, seriously though, when I read about what you guys put up with on the water sometimes, it makes me feel so lucky.
Sure, we get the odd pleasure boating a**hole doing a high speed fly-by way too close, but by and large it is a rare day that I see more than one or two other musky boats on any of our lakes here. A crowded spot would be four walleye/panfish boats fishing off a hump at sunset, and there tend to only be one or two of those "communal" spots on most lakes, leaving the rest wide open. |

The big question, does anyone openly invite and want pressure being directed to their waters? Some waters I fish, it doesn't really bother me, other waters it makes me ..... upset. Much of this depends on how well the body of water can absorb the increased pressure.
Can Lake Minnetonka & Mille Lacs absorb a lot of pressure? Yes. Do I get upset when another boat pulls onto Hennepin Island on Mille Lacs? No.
Can Little Lake X in central MN? or River X in Northern WI? handle a large influx of pressure of musky fisherman? I don't think so without impacting the fishery.

| It also has to be gauged by what type of status and venue your relaying info through
If Im at the landing and talking to a handfull of guys naming water
theres a big difference between someone with a microphone, regular magazine column, or TV camera man naming water,
I can whisper "fire" in a crowded room and a couple people will look
I can get on the public address and yell "FIRE" and cause the whole room to head to one place-the door |

I would never give up any of your rodent spots. I hope one day I am lucky enough to be in the same boat as you when you hook into another large dark brown furry rodent. I would be your net man, I would even grab the line if I had to. |

| I agree! Some waters are more suited to handle pressure than others! Yes, Tonka gets a huge amount of pressure but it also gets a huge amount of stocking! Lets keep in mind that some of the lakes in question are pure stocked fisheries! As long as stocking, management and CPR practices grow with the pressure the sport can be sustained. Pressure and angler surveys have caused the MNDNR to consider 5 new waters. We all win! I have no problem fishing busy water as long as I have options and can still find a secret little honey hole somewhere close! P.S. Mak51 I thought tonka was mine and I shared it with Hammskie! |

Location: Watertown, MN | Ben you should know better, that is my lake, yes tonka gets stocked, but it does not get a huge stocking. It gets the same fish per acre as every other lake in MN. In past years till recently with TC MI chapter stepping up to help meet quotas on the lake, it was coming up short of DNR quota. Cool thing is there is a study being done by DNR with pit and floy tags to study the results of stocking yearling versus 1.5 old. That is why we are working hard to get our Banquet in order to pay for these studies and purchase these fish that everyone takes for granted because it is a public water. This year alone the MN Muskie Inc Chapters are spending $10,000 alone for muskie feeders for the Waterville Hatchery, plus we have I believe another $15,000+ allocated to fish, tags, and other expense just for the fisheries.

| OK I'll share with you too troy! I simply meant Tonka is currently being stocked(every other year, I believe) and it is a pure stocked fishery. It can handle more pressure than lakes in northern MN that are natural fisheries with less aggressive stocking in years past! I have no problem with the pressure on Tonka; in fact I'd like to invite every musky hunter on Tonka to join me for free beer every night this summer! Meet me at Fletchers right at sunset!

| I guess my only beef is when a "guide" goes out of state to speak at Musky Inc meetings and sells a lake they've never been to...apparently trying to keep visitors off his home water. Then, when I go to the lake I normally fish, I meet people from out of state that heard about it from him. He's never fished it!!! It's not that good, it's just good because nobody else fishes it and it's peaceful. |
