I noticed the "drop-wire" hook hanger on Lee Lures (new) Water Chopper HD.
I wish I was going to Chicago.......oh well...

" this “drop wire" provides for better hooking percentage and acts as a keel and keeps the bait upright, even in big waves."

Looks good to me for topwater baits, especially this bait. I like the idea of keeping the hook size to 4/0 using the drop-wire.

What do you think about the "drop-wire" hook hanger?
What other type of lures might benefit from "drop-wire" hook hangers?

He's had that for about 3 or 4 yra now. I like it as well, being able to crank the bait in faster without it rolling over.

Lee's baits are really good and I prefer that drop wire. The only thing you have to be careful of is it does pick up more weeds so if you are fishing water with weeds close to the surface you may get hung up more. In the end I think the benefits outweigh that small negative though!

Drop wires do pick up surface weeds, but they also prevent weeds from making it to the the prop section of a tailbait. I have had many strikes on tailbaits with weeds on them as long as the tail could still spin. i've used spreader hook hangers too that have accomplished the same thing as far as keeping weeds off the tail section.
