How much time would you give to one general area, knowing that there is a fish in the vicinity, can a fish be turned on by differnt lures , or isthe best solution to move on and come back later. Also do you think that 2 much boat pressure will move the beast, or does he fear no evil cause hes the biggest sum b*%$h in the valley. [8)]

I will fish through an area once and come back later. If I feel the area may have an active fish, I may go through it again with another type of bait. After that I usually move on.

that depends on the water you fish. I never would have spent over 30 minutes or more on a spot before I went to Sweden (like 10 minutes would be the maximum amount of time) but when fishing with Kjelle in Sweden, I learned how to fish the good spots there. When I was in the boat with him the first day, we spent over 15-25minutes on one spot and often the first pike didn't come out before 10 minutes had passed. He even managed to catch a 102cm pike after 10 minutes of relentless casting on one wind-blown spot. I noticed that he really knew what he was doign because we had similar experiences in the following days. He did this again when catching a 94cm fat mama and a 98cm pike in the same spot!

But in Holland and Belgium I never stay this long in one spot. Also returning to missed fish didn't produce strikes again in Sweden. We tried that and fished the hotspots several times a day at different times but to no avail. Coming back after two days did produce more fish and often they were bigger ones, or a lot more strikes but all smaller fish. The one stretch where I missed 3 pike of 70-80cm in 5 minutes the second day, didn't produce more strikes until the last day when we landed 3 pike and missed about 7 more in that one stretch of 150 yards! You can never tell. I bet it's a whoel lot different for musky but for pike it's not always a bad idea to camp on the spot and try different lures each time you drift by! Except when the wind was blowing too hard or the underwater islands were too small to drift by long enough, we anchored but even then it produced fish.

Usaully only fish a spot once but may come back in a couple of hours if I think its worth it.But then again I fished one reef for 3hrs because I just knew active fish were going to come and go and I wanted to be there when one or two were up on top and active.I think that if I had the intesinal fortitude to stay out all night I could have caught numerous fish off it.Or maybe that's just wishful thinking.
