| i had a very very good 2009 with db in-lines. that being said, i threw spinnerbaits only 1/100 of the time vs in-lines simply because i didn't "trust" the only two hook points (main plus trailer hook) on the spinnerbaits vs the in-line dual treble six point! i realize that a spinnerbait can come thru cover that i probably wouldn't have intentionally thrown a standard two treble in-line into so should i just "get over it" and throw the spinnerbaits more often or just keep "dancin with who brung me" because i will be disappointed with the lower hook-up ratio with dual point spinnerbaits ?

Location: Pickering, ON | While both are good hookers, I have actually lost fewer fish with spinnerbaits with two single hooks than I've lost on inlines.
I find spinnerbaits with trebles to lose a few more than both (I love Hawg Spins, but one thing I would change is trebles to singles). |

Location: Smith Creek | I like the option of adding a big chunk of rubber to the trailer on the safety pin style (not as easy on treble hooks) and while hook-ups aren't as good on the strike, once they get pinned they stay pinned better than in-lines IMO. Of course I still use in-lines about 3-1 over the safety pin style. |

| wow...so far that surprises me! i would have thought an inline with six hook points would hold more fish than a two hook point spinnerbait! my bad! i suppose it also has alot to do with (i have learned myself) with the angler that uses a top end forgiving rod that knows what to do with a fish once hooked. no? |

Location: Elk River, Minnesota | I think why that happens is when a fish hits a safety pin style, the bait will be forced flat between the jaws. So...when you set the hook, the single hook has a better tendency to be pulled out to the edge of the mouth. I am sure a rod that had a bit of forgiveness helps too, and keeping the head down is a big part of playing the fish too...

Location: Hayward, WI | I've used spinnerbaits quite a bit, and have lost very, very few fish on them. I would have to say that my strike to landing ratio is at least as high on spinnerbaits with two single hooks as it is with tandem treble bucktails.

| ok, how about another variable! for years now i have used 100% barbless hooks and with the baits i have caught many many fish on my un-hooking-caused-by-the-fish-doing-unworldly-things-ratio that are far beyond my control (ya right...lol) has gone down considerably! with that being said and from your comments my confidence grows in throwing spinnerbaits in that i will have a better chance of netting those fish that hit a two hook point spinnerbait! ya baby...is it spring yet?

Location: Pickering, ON | I went over lost fish in my head (don't we always remember those?), and it only takes one finger to count those lost on spinnerbaits with two single hooks (and I fish them more than any other bait). It was opening day 2008, and a trolled fish lost inexplicably right next to the boat - didn't jump, thrash, or get slack; it just all of a sudden wasn't there.

Location: WI | I had 2 spinnerbaits break on me this year, one when a fish hit it. I like them and they hook well, but I don't trust them anymore. They broke at the twist or loop (both styles). One broke while being trolled at 4mph w/a single 10 blade. Dissapointing. |

Location: Pewaukee, WI | I have a hunch the reason your spinner baits broke at the eye loop is probably due to 2 reasons: (1) the wire on the bait was too thin (.051 vs. .062) especially if you are trolling the bait at that speed with larger blades on it & (2) The eye or connecting loop on the bait was a single wrapped eye. If you look at Moore's Lures catalog you will see how he double wraps the eyes on his spinner baits so you now have double the material to handle the vibration of the bait.  |

Location: WI | Actually they were .062 and they were each wrapped/looped a different way. One one looped around, the other I think was looped and wrapped. |

| spinnerbaits have a VERY good hookup ratio,i have not loss many fish on them,but i use them only for trolling.
i prefer by far bucktails when its time to cast
when they are twisted old fashion way the wire lose a lots of is toughness
only one kind of twist can prevents brake off,of course .62 will help but if they are not correctly twisted they will brake

Why would you want to change to spinnerbaits then? Each bait has a time and place, but if you have confidence in bucktails then I would use them most of the time. |
