Location: Maplewood, MN | I'm looking through my box and noticed I don't have many mid depth (say 12 ft) cranks. What are recommendations on a 12-15 ft crank bait with the fact that I cast more than I troll. But want the bait to do both well. Thanks in advance! |

| I agree...very few can get that depth. The Livid Fish, made by Naze Baits, can get to eight feet on a straight retrieve, and 15-20 trolling depending on the usual variables.

Location: Land of the Musky | My Mag Shad will get close to 12' casting but the weight is about 7.5oz. The Twitcher will go to about 6' casting. No different thatn throwing big rubber all day but some don't like lures that heavy for casting. They were designed for trolling. Cool thing when casting the deep Mag Shad is that when it gets to the boat it is about 12' directly under you. Just an FYI.
I got a few of those Livid fish this year and those are fantastic lures too! Very cool action and not like anything else in the tackle box! Very cool lures.

Location: Freedom, WI | My 7" Penatrator(on custom page) hits bottom in the 12' range casting and a new one (not on website yet) the Switchback hits bottom in 10' casting. I will have both in the regular line up this year and will have them at Chicago. |

| A Storm Lightnin Shad will get down 12'. They are a smaller bait, but I change the rings and put 4/0 VMC Conecuts on them, the action is not impaired. Great Musky bait here in Ohio.

Location: Grand Rapids MN | Like others said it's tough to get 12-15 casting cranks.. The ones I mentioned are more the 8-10' range. I have a 9" Ernie that gets deeper than the rest but not sure exactly how deep it goes.. feels like it is coming up from underneath the boat when casting it. Another good one is MI "deep" Invader. I would suggest sinking/count down cranks for the application you are looking for. CD Depth Raiders, Kickin' Minnows, or you will have to weight some cranks to get down there. |

| I can't certify on the depth, but think about the 7" or 8" Believer. The big St. Lawrence fish of December 2 came on what? |

Agreed. Great Selection (although I don't think they get down quite to 15', but close enough). Also, the deep-diving Rapala X-Rap will hit 10-12' casting. |

If that's not deep enough, throw a Legend Plow.
I've thrown a Legend Perch Bait on 65# Tuf-Line and hit bottom in 12'-15' of water. They don't have a ton of resistance either, they cut through the water very nicely.
I love 'em.

| ACE Minnow baits in 6", 8" or 10" sizes will all dive to the depths required. Also ACE Wobblin'Flippers in 6" and 8 " size. All at the Chicago show in a few weeks! |

Location: Oconto Falls, WI | 12-15' on a straight crank, or with twitches/rips thrown in? Anytime you throw rips in the bait runs shallower.
As Roger mentioned check out his Switchbacks and Penetrators. Also Beav brought up the Perchbait which is one that is great for casting. The Ace minnowbait is an awesome one as well especially early in the year. Get the largest one.
Hooker Jr.s will get you down there as well, but do pull a bit. Regular Hookers get down there for sure, but you need a good stick for throwing something like that. The previous two I have been throwing on a 9' Lamiglass rod. Just beware when you get into the deep diving, hard pulling baits made of plastic that you intend to rip. You will bust lures (lips will bust out of the head) once you get a rod to handle them. Trust me on this one as I busted several this past year.
There are quite a few that will get down to that depth straight cranking, but few that will when you throw in the twitches that convert the fish.

Location: Ohio | I have a line of deep minnows and shads that will get down to 15+ feet casting with 80# Cortland. Rollie and Helen's and Thorne Brothers will have some of them in Chicago.
