Shimano, Okuma, and Diawa I can usually make sense of. Abu confuses me to no end as to the number of models and where they've been made. Is there I simple web page somewhere that makes sense of the zillions of models they offer? I'm guessing its the result of being around for so long or is the result of producing a few reels that didn't go over particularly well. The two Abu's I own have held up and perform well.
Maybe my confusion is just the result of a bass guy turning to the dark side. The learning curve is steep. Ask me about a bass reel and I'm fine...talk to me about different models of musky reels and I'm swimming in the deep (with no life jacket).
Thanks for any help you can offer me in sorting it all out!

I think they have a breakdown of what each letter and number means on their website. I'm also pretty sure that the 7000 is the only made in china reel, with the others made in sweden. They simply use number and letter combinations instead of different names for their reels.

In general for there round reels the first number is the size of the reel (4, 5, 6, or 7) the second number is the method of spoole release (5 or 0=push button, 6=thumb bar) then at the end 00=right hand and 01= left hand.

I'm pretty sure all are now made in China, I know my Toro is and it's one of their best. Just says engineered in Sweden on the reel box says Made In China.

Only the 7000's are made in china. All C3's, 4's, and Records are MADE IN SWEDEN.

I am not sure about the Toro/other low profile reels but I am for sure about the round reels being made in Sweden.

Abu's low-profile reels (Toro, etc) are made in Korea.

My Abu round reels have "Made in Sweden" stamped on the bottom of the right sideplate.

Thanks for the explanation of the Abu model numbering system, by the way.
