I am planning on making a few lipped diving baits with twister tails attached to the back end. What is the best way to attach the tail? I was thinking about a corkscrew shaped wire protruding from the rear but, I did not know if that would hold.

Thanks. That is exactly what I was thinking!

The spring works but make sure it is heavy enough for the size of tail. I have changed what I attach the tails with since the middle of the year. The spring can be a little hard to keep centered and can get bent out of shape with the large tail that I use but holds well. I will be getting new pictures up before the end of the year of the new way I am doing it.

I used a spring on the back of a swimbait I built recently and I really like it. As Roger says it can be dificult getting it all centered but once you get it right the tail will never come off and best of all requires no glue.

ahh, i'm glad to hear you say that. my hardhead spring got out of shape and i couldn't get the tail centered, quite frustrating. i thought maybe it was just me and a result of using a Tyrant tail instead of the big Mogambo style ones that come with it.
i ended up busting the spring off trying to straighten it, so i just glued the tail on instead. that limits the ease for changing tails but work fine for fishing.
it's good to hear you're improving this great bait, Roger!

lambeau - Make sure you bring it along to the shows ( I will have a booth in Chicago) and I will fix it up for ya. It is an easy fix with a dremmel and a drill bit and 5 minute epoxy. Bet you found out the Tyrant tail did not work. First the body is to short and the rubber is different and screws on hard. Tilky gave me some tails to play with, I found I had to cut off the front of a Kalin and glue it on the Tyrant tail (after shorting it first). Always looking to make better and try something new.
