I would suggest one of the classics if you can find it. It's called "secrets of a muskie guide" by Tony Rizzo. He covers many topics about presentations etc. to which some have changed due to equipment but overall is a good read with some good stories.
Also if you can find it, is Steve Heiting's book which I cannot remember the name, but he also goes through different tactics with different guides from early season to freeze-up.
And...if you haven't gotten it already, get the Canadian Bible: "Muskies on the Shield" by Dick Pearson. Hands down the best for presentation and locations for canadian fish.

Complete Guide to Musky Hunting - Saric and Heiting
A new (to me) one I'm thinking of checking out is Buck Perry on Spoonplugging.
And, for entertainment, maybe The Greatest Musky Stories Ever Told (no, not the girth claims on the web boards).

| I recommend picking up a copy of "Time on the Water". It is not an instructional book, but it is in my mind the greatest book ever written about musky fishing. A great winter read and I'm re-reading it for the upteenth time. Rekindles the spirit of why I love to musky fish. |

I thought it was pretty good. Pete Maina also has a similar book out that's decent. |

When it comes to structure fishing he was the last person to have an original thought on the subject, everyone else just repeats what he said. |

| Thanks for the feeback everyone! Some of the suggested books are hard to find but i'll keep searching. There's really not a lot of musky books out there when you dig into it. Could be an oppurtunity for someone.
Thanks,

| I would second the nomination of
1. Rizzo, Secrets of a Muskie Guide
2. Pearson, Muskies on the Shield
3. Saric and Heiting, Complete Guide To Muskie Hunting
I was disappointed with Secrets of a Muskie Guide 2. Wouldn't buy it. Some of what Pearson discusses may be applicable anywhere--not just the Canadian Shield. Saric and Heiting are best at covering the lures and how to use them.
I bought and read Time On The Water. It is interesting but not instructive. This angler's experience was not productive. He should have read more before devoting a full season to nothing but fishing. Maybe he was in the wrong place for a whole season's effort.
Pete Maina's serious book is also worth having. |

| Ok ok,
Musky Mastery by Steve Heiting
Northern Pike and Muskie by Dick Sternberg
Crankbait Secrets by Bucher
and, so you are well-rounded in your reading.....
How to Catch Gamefish by Jack Lamb. The Lamb book may be tough to find. It was written in 1937. The author promotes C&R throughout the text, muskie guys didn't invent CPR. |

I think it's different. T. Rizzo has like 3-5 books. |

Location: Kronenwetter, WI | Thanks for the tread. Got me thinking about re-reading Pearson's Muskies on the Shield. Just put it down sitting beside the fire now watching out the window for phase II of this storm that is looming. The forward of this book by Kim, references the 'lost years'. Does anyone know if there are any chronicles of this experience? Would be a fascinating read. |
