Location: Ontario | Hi All!
I normally fish for Musky when I go out ad when I have the opportunity to fish for pike, they are usually smaller paddle heads. This week I am getting the opportunity to fish a lake that has some pretty large pike, at least high 40s. I am just wondering if I should stick with the same musky tactics or are there other things I should be doing.
Thanks,
Matt |

Location: Elko - Lake Vermilion | Maybe downsize everything.... Jerk baits, 3/4 oz spinner baits,Twich baits..
A stout spinning rod with 50lb. line and a leader is always a blast to use when tangling with a 40+ inch Pike.
I'd say the tactics would be about the same. Where ya Pike fishing?

Location: Ontario | Im actually heading up to the big 3 Muskoka Lakes. Very low fishing pressure, tough to fish, but holds some big fish |

| If you want to catch the biggest pike in the system -find a baitshop with frozen cisco's - the largest pike are "lazy" -even more so with cold water temps. Big pike LOVE dead cisco's |

Location: Ontario | Thanks for the tips on the frozen bait. I never even thought about that. Ciscos are very similar to Herring I think. Hard to find Cisco and any live bait this time of year around here. I have also heard of something called Capelin. I live near Toronto, lots of Asian markets around here and they will have all kinds of frozen stuff. |

| I'm just speculating here, but if you're fishing cold open water why not just try the things you would use in the early spring. For shallow, I would try 1 ounce dardevil spoons, six inch jake or grandma in firetiger and shiner patterns, and six inch Bomber Long A in redhead/silver/white. On the Bomber I remove the silver colored treble hooks and install steel or bronze colored hooks. For deeper water I would go with the baby depthraider in Miller Perch or Sucker; and the six inch Believer in firetiger or perch. |

Location: Ontario | Well, there is a storm rolling in and apprently they are going to get over a foot of snow with nasty winds over the next couple of days on top of the half a foot they already have. So....."envy" might be too strong of a word right now ![](https://muskie.outdoorsfirst.com/board/images/emoticons/smile.gif) |
