I have a question, Perhaps it has already been asked here if so I didn't find it.
Recently my cabin was burglarized and among the items stolen was all my muskie tackle. For some reason they left all my rods and reels but tackle boxes and their contents are gone. For insurance purposes I am currently trying to create an inventory of the missing equipment. I suspect that the claims adjuster will balk at the dollar amount of all my muskie tackle.
If you had to estimate the dollar amount to replace all your muskie tackle (Just what is in your tackle boxes), how much would it be? I am hoping to see a lot of responses here. I am not stating what I am coming up with for my own amount so as not to influence any of your responses.
Thanks In advance.

| Get a catalog and start writing down lure names and prices. If you have any pictures of your tackle that will help. |

Over $6,000 just in lures. and that's a conservative estimate. With all the muskie shows comming up, I need to keep this in mind! |

I've got myself back into one Lakewood Monster, so I'll say $2000 or less.
Even then, at least 1/2 of them are probably still virgins.

| Figure $18 for the average lure, I've probably got 400 lures?? That's $7200 right there. Add in the cost of your lakewoods, hooks, snaps, split rings, pliers, knipex...
Rods and reels aside, I'd say $10,000.
Factor in your rods, net, reels, line, truck, boat, and all the clothes you need to fish until ice up?
I'd be willing to be that most of us have probably $75,000 invested.
If you really want to feel stupid, figure out how much money you've spend all inclusive. Tackle, trips, guides, gas, EVERYTHING.
Then divide that by the number of muskies you have caught. |

| I think it's probably in the neighborhood of only $300-$400. (Why is it that you feel like you have a small "man-thing" when the amount is that low?)
But as they also say, what I have gets the job done for me! |

| Seems like a good time to remind people to take pictures, or even better a video, of all of their equipment for insurance purposes. A lot of us have a significant amount of money invested in this sport, protect your investment and get it documented and insured properly. Also, don't keep the only records you have of your equipment in the same location as your equipment. Save your photos in your email as well as on your computer. That way when the house burns down with all of your equipment, your camera, and your computer still in it you have concrete evidence of what you had to show your insurer.
Think I just figured out what I'm doing tonight! |

| And we wonder why there aren't more musky fisherman. Ha!
It would be a good test for all of us to take a look at our equipment, usa a fictional budget of say $750 for rods, reels and lures... and tell ourselves, this is what I need to go to war. And you know what, we probably would catch the same amount of fish year to year. And since I make all my lures, I can keep my Calcutta in the mix.

Location: Southern Ontario, Detroit River and Lake StClair | I got ripped off a few years back. When I took it to my insurance company they said not a problem and that they typically paid $3-$4 per lure for fishing gearing. When I told them that Muskie baits usually ran in the $20 per bait area they just about sh!t. they ended up paying it out but only after I provided pictures of the baits and boxes and got estimates for a couple of different shops for replacement value. Now I have separate rider for my fishing gear thats good for $15,000 about $12,000 of that is all Muskie gear thats been collected over 20yrs+. Every year before season I do inventory and take pictures then hand them over to my insurance company. I'm not sure how things work in the in the USA for insurance but it was relatively cheap to have it added to my house insurance and good piece of mind knowing its FULLY insured.
Good Fishin'

| I think most fishermen have memorized every lure in their tackle box. I would suggest that you make a list, look up the prices on Rollie & Helens, and derive a precise number. Rollie & Helens (web site or catalog) is a good source because they have a wide selection and "typical" prices.
For most dedicated musky hunters, I think the amount would be in the thousands of dollars.

| $3500-$4000 in rods, reels, tackle. I usually add about $300 a year in tackle to fill in colors and new lures. Don't really need to, but in Canada if you need a lure, they pretty much don't have what you want, so I carry my own store with me. I sure don't carry all the boxes in my boat, but if I need something I've got it in the cabin. |

Good thinking Tim. I did the insurance rider thing a bunch of years ago to cover accumulated fly fishing gear. It was just 5K but I always felt good about it. I upped it to $10K when we switched carriers.
My wife is completely in the dark about what stuff costs, but she's not stupid either. In the event of my untimely death (seriously) my wife KNOWS not to just firesale the stuff on the front lawn or anything. |

| with all the money most of you guys have invested in lures. my question would be of all of your lures how many do you still use? do you go through hundreds of lures over the course of the season or do you have your favorite few that get fished most of the time. |

Over the course of an average season, fishing maybe 35 days?
I probably use two dozen different lures. I might use 4 or 5 during a week up on Eagle, and yet I bring half of my lures up there with me. Why IS that... |
