Location: Madison, WI | Here are the finished baits, I'm very new at adding lips to my baits, and I think I have a couple of issues. The blue chrome bait, it appears to roll/pull a little too much to the left. Can or should I shave a little of the lip on the right side?? Is there a better fix? The Black twitch bait also wobbles/rolls to one side as well, it's weighted but the photo looks like the lip might not be square. I'm not worried if I have to sacrafice these, it's all good practice for painting/weighting, i just would like some advice on how to approach the lip issues as I continue to hone my skills. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Please critique the baits as I am just a newbe and anxious to learn and get better.
Thank you in advance for your help,
MS

| YES---I would also give the line tie a try--bend or twist it to the right or left and see if that corrects the problem--sometimes that is all they need!!!!! |

Location: washington state | at first glance it appears the leading edge of the lip is not square with the bait ( both). you might try shaving the front edge off a little and try it.
how much weight? i weight mine so they barely float to minimize side roll. wind some solder around the hook shank to try.
also you might try relocating the line tie up higher to get it more in the centerline of the bait.
nice paint jobs by the way |

| bend the line tie left or right. if the lips off its firewood for trolling. also on shad style baits belly ballasts helps. your not alone on this problem.. remember the more lead ballast the lesser action on shad styles. |

Location: Madison, WI | Thanks for all the tips. It will be very difficult to bend the line tie, it's .092 SS eye screw and I used D2ton epoxy to set it, so I'm pretty sure it won't budge (can I try and bend it in a vice)? Will a split ring attached to the line tie help???
Thanks again,

One other observation, take the triple split rings off and put on some bucher style ones. You won't get a free hook swing with those split rings. |

Location: Freedom, WI | Use a flat nose pliers (common slip jaw pliers) on the screw eye and bend it, do not twist just bend. The eye can be bent quite a bit and if it still does not work because of the lip remove it and try again. To remove the lip you can clamp the lip in a vice sideways and try and twist it loose, you may be surprised how easy it comes out. You may have to dremmel the epoxy around the lip so you do not ruin your paint. You can also cut the lip out with a band saw VERY carefully and glue in a new lip with 5 minute so you do not have to hold it so long before it sets. If done right it should be usable but not the prettiest. Now you know you have to be careful to get the lip straight. |

Location: Oconto Falls, WI | Also make sure your hook hangers are in-line with your line tie. All of which should be down the center of the bait. I can't tell with the blue bait, but the black definitely doesn't have the hook hangers in-line with the line tie. That will throw the bait off kilter.
